Being both anal/compulsive AND having time available (I am retired) I spend an inordinate amount of time keeping CT up to date. There is no other way!

My wife thinks I spend way too much time on the computer. I say, "how do you know, you're always on the phone!"

I would be able to try that comment exactly once.......

Having been married for 29 years, I know better....at least I have learned something.

There's a comedian, Bobby Collins, who does a bit about talking to his wife:

He says his wife is yammering on about something he did wrong and he yells "SHUT UP!"...
On the inside.
To his wife he says 'Yes dear'

Audit completed

4 wines were completely different years than what we had entered
2 wines didn't exist in CT but did exist in reality
6 wines existed in CT but didn't exist in reality

4 new beers added

Not terrible though off a base of 214 wines which are located here... ~5% incorrect

Makes me a bit skeptical of the veracity of our offsite holdings though.

I think I get a reprieve this time! I can blame the outage as I noticed a few bottles I had actually recorded as consumed were unconsumed during the data loss. Therefore EVERYTHING that is wrong now must have happened then! I just have to stall on getting trued up and I'm golden for a while.

I removed my first bottle from inventory as dropped or broke. A 2011 Bedrock Kick Ranch Syrah. I not only suck at CellarTracker, but I apparently don't do to well operating my cellar. Grabbed a bottle, another shifted and hit the floor before I could catch it. Quite a mess.

I once thought I was being amazingly haphazard about CT; it kept claiming I had bottles and I knew where they should be, and they weren't there.

I started locking the cellar door and hiding the spare key. And guess what? Now my CT inventory seems to track the actual cellar just fine. Never did pin down precisely who was sneaking the bottles out of the cellar, although I had a suspicion that may have been right. But the main thing is that thinking I was bad at CT revealed a pattern of thefts and helped me stop them. To me that's a solid win for CT!

I used to identify with this statement by fingers, thought I had my cellar management nailed. No longer - I recently had a nagging suspicion I was missing a bottle from my home wine refrigerator; only has a capacity of 56. Finally checked this AM and found I had not one, but a total of four bottles missing and "presumed drunk".

My Halloween wine began life last night as "Huh? What's this?" I have no memory of buying it at all and the absence of it in CT confirms just how much I suck at CT.

Began balancing the books, so to speak, as the major shipments arrived last week and discovered that I had never entered two good selections that I was happy about......

3 X 2011 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée (Magnums)
4 X 2005 Château Doisy-Daëne

Always good to find you ordered something and forgot!

Found one bottle I'd not entered, but 20 that I'd not marked as consumed.

Thank goodness for the "Missing; Presumed Drunk" feature.

Better known as "I suck at CT.".

Only off by four huh? I suspect that when I get around to it I'll be 2-3 dozen or more away from squared up. Of course I am blaming the outage on everything. Even the bottles I drank yesterday were some how caught up in the vortex of IT trauma.

Just had a confusion over the store for some pending wine I just accepted. Then Eric showed me about 40 bottles or so where I never entered the store. Talk about sucking at CT. Oh well, off to get my eyes (and brains) checked.

I had a discussion with a wine store that went something like this ... "Why did you put 2 bottles of XXXX wine in the case, I never ordered those!" ... (reply) "Yes you did sir, here is a copy of the email showing you ordered it."

... Then comes that most horrible of horrible moments when you fully realize you just lost that argument cause you were wrong ...

Apparently I suck at CT. We have recently moved, and all the wine is still in boxes. I need to do a complete inventory when I reload the cabinets. I have been pulling from boxes and then removing from inventory. I have found several bottles that don't appear in inventory. I must have the habit of taking a bottle out twice, while trying to remove only one.

When putting a bottle in the cellar today, I noticed a few open spaces in a part of the cellar I'd believed to be jammed to capacity. Took the laptop down there for an impromptu inventory spot check, and ended up with a particularly painful "missing, presumed drunk" list:

2007 Domaine du Grand Tinel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Alexis Establet
2007 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée
2008 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau
2008 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau
2009 Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

So I'm no stranger to the missing, presumed drunk category - and it's possible I raided the cellar for the Grand Tinel & l'Oratoire at some point - but I am 99.999% certain that I never drank the VT or the Pegau. I've been building a vertical of the VT, not drinking them but saving for a vertical tasting, and those were the only 2 bottles of 2009 that I had. And the Pegau was my last bottle of that wine after loving it at the most recent DC/NoVa offline. I would only ever have served that wine to a real wine lover, since casual wine drinkers might not appreciate all that brett/barnyard.

It's impossible to me to believe that someone would have taken them, but I logged on here and saw Ken's note above and now I'm wondering...

maybe it's time to start locking the wine cabinet.

I feel crappy.

Occasionally I find something not in the cellar. Usually it's a white that my wife drinks. I'm trying to not obsess about the disparity. Fortunately she does not drink the reds, and she makes her friends drink her whites. I am safe and no kids at home to worry about. Also if a few bottles go missing, that may be a good thing. Sometimes I think I only buy and drink so I have a reason to play about in CT.

Reading the past few entries makes me wonder as well about bottles missing, presumed drunk. But like Dennis, I'm not going to get too bent on a couple of missing bottles.

I packed 7 cases off to the storage locker this weekend. One case was of some mixed Sauternes that I do not intend to touch for a while. When I went to update the location in CellarTracker, I found that 2 of the bottles moved to the locker and a third bottle that I kept in the cellar were not recorded in inventory. Better than missing a bottle and presuming it drunk, but still ...

I guess I suck at CT. I just went to accept delivery of my Thomas and Kosta Browne purchases and neither were in CT yet.

I decided to forgo the anxiety of SS and buy my own bottle this year, but I can not remember what it was!

OK started the true up. So far

28 bottles marked as pending that had already arrived like months ago.
24 bottles that arrived that I didn't know I ordered so weren't in CT
37 not marked as consumed but were gonners
2 marked as consumed that were not in fact consumed yet. (Which is kind of awesome since they are an 89 and 90 Grange!)

And pending deliveries I think are right at 163 of which are only 2010 Bordeaux in transit and barrel projects...

I just finished an inventory, after moving to a new house.
Total present 782
Missing presumed drunk 9
Present but not in inventory. 14

I think most of my issues were on entry. I noticed several times that I backed up before the submit completed and the bulk of the ones not in inventory would be from several years ago.

I thought I had a real problem because there were so many un crossed lines on my exported spreadsheet, until I cross checked and we did drink them after I printed the list.

+1. Got the list sitting on my desk. Now to see if I can actually go out there and inventory tomorrow.
