When putting a bottle in the cellar today, I noticed a few open spaces in a part of the cellar I'd believed to be jammed to capacity. Took the laptop down there for an impromptu inventory spot check, and ended up with a particularly painful "missing, presumed drunk" list: 2007 Domaine du Grand Tinel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Alexis Establet 2007 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 2008 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau 2008 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau 2009 Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape So I'm no stranger to the missing, presumed drunk category - and it's possible I raided the cellar for the Grand Tinel & l'Oratoire at some point - but I am 99.999% certain that I never drank the VT or the Pegau. I've been building a vertical of the VT, not drinking them but saving for a vertical tasting, and those were the only 2 bottles of 2009 that I had. And the Pegau was my last bottle of that wine after loving it at the most recent DC/NoVa offline. I would only ever have served that wine to a real wine lover, since casual wine drinkers might not appreciate all that brett/barnyard. It's impossible to me to believe that someone would have taken them, but I logged on here and saw Ken's note above and now I'm wondering... maybe it's time to start locking the wine cabinet. I feel crappy.
