2016 Full Pull & Friends Frog Kisser

See wine details

Full Pull offer on July 26, 2020

Hello friends. We kiss frogs so that our list members don't have to. It's long been one of Full Pull's unofficial mottos. Our aim is to discard 99% of the frogs and only offer to our list members those rare amphibians who turn out to be princes in disguise.

When we decided that we needed a value private label for our list members as a companion to Full Pull & Friends and Block Wines, Frog Kisser was a natural fit. We began with our Frog Kisser Rosé, and then expanded into reds with our Frog Kisser Cabernet on May 24, which is entirely sold out. The next logical step? An equally excellent white option.

2016 Frog Kisser White Wine Walla Walla Valley - $29.99 (TPU $14.99)
Most of the wines that end up in the Frog Kisser program are going to be one-offs, pop-ups, places where we’re able to help out with market inefficiencies. We reached out to a long-time FP partner—someone well-loved/respected by our list members—to see if there was any white wine they needed help moving. Indeed, there was; a win-win for everyone. They get to move through a large chunk of wine during an uncertain time and in exchange, offered us pricing that gets us to 50% off the price of what is a similar wine to their own.

One of the most exciting things about this wine is the rarity of it. White Rhone bottlings at any price are a bit more rare than their red counterparts. For example, only 7% of all the wine produced in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is white wine. And while these Rhone-inspired blends may be a bit easier to find in Washington, the pricing can be a big obstacle. To be honest, we don’t offer nearly as many rhone whites as we would like because the category doesn’t represent a whole lotta bang-for-you-buck. Prices tend to start in the low-s and ascend from there.

So, the wine. Naturally, there’s not a lot I can’t say. What I can say is this bottle is a blend of 27% Marsanne, 21% Clairette, 19% Roussanne, 17% Viognier, 11% Grenache Blanc, and 5% Picpoul. I can’t say which vineyard these grapes called home, but I can tell you it’s a single vineyard. (I think that’s a pretty generous hint; happy hunting!) It can also tell you it clocks in at TK% alcohol and has recently received a terrific review from Sean Sullivan:

Wine Enthusiast (Sean Sullivan): “This is a blend of Marsanne, Clairette, Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul. Light aromas of mineral, clarified butter and corn silk lead to a creamy-feeling palate. It has a swoon-worthy mouthfeel and shows a lot of layering and richness. An extended finish caps it off. It flat-out impresses and is a screaming value of the sort seldom seen from this appellation. Best Buy. 92pts.”

I frequently hear people pitch Rhone whites, with their inherent power and oomph, as good alternatives to Chardonnay. They aren’t wrong; lovers of richer-style Chardonnay will find plenty of pleasure here. But that isn’t the whole story. There’s a savory edge to this bottle—corn, beeswax, chamomile, minerals—that elevates the entire package, courtesy of a few years of extra bottle age. It makes me think whole crab and aioli are in order; or fresh pasta (Seattlites, I get mine here) with jammy zucchini and plenty of cheese.

Please limit order requests to 12 bottles, and we'll do our best to fulfill all requests, with allocations coming Tuesday at 9am. The wine is in the warehouse and available for post-allocation curbside pickup, for flat-rate local shipping, or for regular shipping during the next temperature-appropriate shipping window.

Regards,
Team Full Pull
