November 12, 2022 - Thinking about buying more to lay down in light of the 95 rating from Dunnuck but wanted to get an idea where it’s at first. Slow ox during the day for around eight hours and decanted for a couple more, however, that wasn’t enough - the fruit came across somewhat closed/not overly expressive. Dark ruby fruit - currants, blackberry, and dark cherry. Smooth-palate with solid depth/concentration. However, once again it came across somewhat closed/not overly expressive. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. I’ll refrain from rating this bottle because it needs more time as expected. In my opinion, most of Mike’s 2019 cabs need another year or two. We’ll see how this bottle evolves over the next couple days. According to the winemaker, allow 2-3 years for the tannins and fruit to come together which makes sense. 100% cab.

11/14/22, 9:33 AM - Interesting note, I have been attempting to catch up with Michelle at Scarlett since July and my local guy has had this wine for a couple of months but he is open by appointment and our schedules conflict. It's probably transitioning at this stage which seems to occurring with some of the 2019 I’ve tasted recently. I'm definitely going to pick up a few bottles as I'm pretty sure that this 2019 will probably behave much like the 2018, on an early journey. I actually thought it would be more approachable? I am really enjoying Mike's 2020's, the Peterson is a monster and all of them are amazingly approachable. Mike’s 2020’s there are several hits in his portfolio.

11/14/22, 10:00 AM - As we’ve gone over before, most of the 2018 and 2019 Napa cabs are still pretty stubborn in my opinion and need time but I like how they are showing on day two and especially day three. I’m planning to revisit the 2019 Scarlett tonight. I expect a lot of improvement because the quality of fruit appeared to be there but just hiding. Mike’s 2020 cabs that I’ve had so far are tremendous in my opinion. Although it appears that you and I are the few that are enjoying them which I don’t get. I wonder how they will age being so approachable and enjoyable at such a youthful stage. Although it’s not going to matter with me, I’ll likely blow through his 2020 cabs over the next year. Did you buy many of his higher-end 2020 cab? I didn’t but bought quite a bit of the Quivet Napa cab, Myriad Napa cab, Myriad Peterson cab, Quivet Kenefick Ranch cab, Quivet Calistoga cab, and Becklyn Napa cab. I also didn’t buy much of the 2020 Carter cabs because I have a lot of the 2018 and 2019s laying down.

11/14/22, 6:28 PM - Yes, I've purchased a generous of the 2020 Quivet, Myriad and Becklyn wines but none of the higher end Cabs. I'm really happy that I was able to taste the lineup of Quivet and Myriad most of Cabs (not the high end) and purchase them, these wines (so far) could rival the 2016.

11/14/22, 7:41 PM - I agree - although from what I’ve experienced so far the 2020 vintage might be better. The 2020 Quivet Napa cab, Myriad Napa cab, and Peterson cab are some of the best wines I’ve had lfor the money. I’m planning to try the 2020 Quivet Calistoga cab this weekend. Looking forward to the Becklyn but they keep delaying shipping. Take care.

5/2/23, 10:46 AM - Anyone buying that 19 Heritage Reserve? Can’t figure out how it compares to the regular reserve flavor wise

5/2/23, 11:37 AM - I noticed the Heritage Reserve cab on the Golden Gate Wine Cellars website and I meant to ask Mike about it. Have you heard much about it?
