    March 12, 2023 - Day 1:
The wine is harsh and bitter with tannic fruit that overwhelms the palate. The flavors are unfriendly and not very inviting.

Day 2 (bottle left standing in the cellar, no cork):
After being left to breathe for a day, the tannic fruit of the wine has softened and now has some supple elements of soft plums. The wine is still quite bold and powerful, but the harshness from day one has subsided.

    Day 3 (no cork):
The wine has maintained its softness and suppleness from day two, but the flavors are slightly less pronounced.

    Day 5 (no cork):
Unfortunately, the wine has started to fade, losing much of its boldness and flavor. It is not as enjoyable as it was on day two and three.

Overall, the 2013 Chateau Montus is a wine that currently needs a lot of time to breathe in order to fully showcase its uppeties. Despite its initial harshness, it has the potential to be a fantastic wine with a bit of patience and proper storage.

    ------+±++--+--+---+++-------

3/12/23, 7:17 AM - How many years would you wait for next bottle?

  • StefanAkiko commented:

    3/12/23, 8:16 AM - Theoretically, 10 years.
But I will probably drink the next one (too early) already before 2025…
Having two more btls kind of allows me to enjoy the next one "whenever". But I will surely air it for a very lomg time.

    What’s your idea?

3/12/23, 8:32 AM - I was thinking about opening my first of 3 soon, but I'll be more patient and follow your advice ;-)
I had a 2014 four years ago, it was a big bloc of power black fruits, but so delicious and more defined the next day.

3/12/23, 8:37 AM - It was brilliant on day 2, albeit quite a tannic monster. Wonderful with umami heavy dishes like grilled meat :-)
Not that there's any hurry, but if you’re curious… Just let it out :-)
