May 6, 2023 - Translucent color looking more like Pinot Noir than a wine that is made from Pride Mountain. That said, don't let the color fool you. This has more power and umph than the color suggests. Mostly red savory fruit with a semi-sweet finish. It needs more time in the bottle to settle down but considering this is a '21, it is drinking ok now. Having tasted a few California Sangiovese's in the past (Altamura, Staglin, Pride, Castello di Amorosa, etc), my conclusion is that Sangiovese should stay in Tuscany and the attempt to make a 'boutique' and hard to find wine in California is nothing more than the commercial engine that is the American wine industry. If you have $100 to spend on Sangiovese, you can save $20 - $40 and have exponential levels of enjoyment if you buy some Constanti or Valdicava Brunello or even save $60 by drinking some great Chianti Classico. While I love Pride Mountain for what they are known for with Cab. & Merlot, I will not be buying anymore of their Sangiovese much less buying it from anywhere else in California.
