June 10, 2009 - I have a few theories about this wine but the bottom line is that I think this should have been declassified. The alcohol -- 15.5% (!) -- juts out, especially upon opening. The oak isn't too forward except that the fruit just doesn't stand up to it and the whole thing is disjointed. Even when it is clicking better, like now after 90 minutes in the decanter, it tastes like a bastard child of ripe Grenache and an actual Pinot. This is from a cool climate site. The candied strawberry and tea flavors are not offensive. Paying $50 for this is. A shame, since the Boheme Syrahs have been nothing short of spectacular.
