April 28, 2024 - This wine is my archilles heel. I chanced upon their youtube video and i was really impressed by the entire short documentary. And the fact ferregamo bought it, the fact they got 99 points by JS plus its situated on a majestic mountaintop. I rem as i poured out the wine, i remember a nice swirling consistentence and a colour that beams. But alas as i took the first gulp and then second gulp, i was abit taken aback that the taste really came across as just normal…. Nothing out of the spectrum and i wasn’t floored by the experience and needless to say i struggled with understanding how it got 99 points? Not here to throw rocks because i actually bought 4 more bottles of 2015 and 3 more 2016 subsequently to probably convince myself otherwise? Hence i am curious does anyone have any similar experience like me? Or what am i actually missing out?

4/28/24, 3:30 AM - JS rates every second wine 99 or 100 points... Also 2016 Brunello need a few more years in bottle

4/28/24, 7:56 AM - I bought 12 of these based on the same reasons you indicated above. Have not opened any yet... thinking to wait until 2026 or 2027. I have the '15 as well and it needed a LOT of airtime to come around. I suspect the '16 will be no different. For context 2010 BdM is just now starting to move into it's ideal drinking window. I suspect this wine just needs more time to set-up. For add'l reference I had a '12 (decanted) at a dinner party not too long ago and it was fantastic.

4/28/24, 8:21 AM - Typically, I wait 10+ years for all BDM & Nebbi's (Barolo & Barbaresco) as I'm an Italian wine junky. Also, I'm not a fan of JS especially for Italian wine. The only two that I follow for advice on Italian wines are Galloni and D'Agata. Hope that helps!

4/28/24, 10:23 AM - JS is not to be trusted, I always subtract four points from his ratings, other people six. I'm usually within a point of the CT average so I check here first, but if there aren't many notes Antonio Galloni is the most reliable critic in my experience. If you can wait five years I think this wine will continue to improve. CT92 is quite a good score, wines that cost $500+ are often CT96.

4/28/24, 11:02 AM - I find the CT ratings tend to be more honest and an accurate reflection of QPR relative to the professional reviews. Agree JS tends to rate high but even subtracting from his scores yields very, very good wines. I try to find his high-scoring picks that are under $100 USD and this has served me very well with my best so far being the 2016 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec River Stones Adrianna Vineyard which I gave a 95 (JS99) and was absolutely magnificent. One thing I do tend to like about JS though is his view that wines can be more approachable at a younger age vs some of the other professionals. This has been my experience as well and I find most Bdx, BdM, Barolos, high-end Riojas & Napa are all very approachable with 8-10 years of bottle age is you come at them the right way. Have a terrific weekend

4/28/24, 1:14 PM - Time does it all. But this is a great wine at this pricepoint. It wil be allright.
And Brennan18 don't forget Barbaresco! That can be so delicious! So elegant.
