January 1, 2007 - Medium blood red. Showing some age, with browning throughout and a wide paler rim. Nose is heady - so pinot, so mature - this must be old before its time, but it is lovely. Fragrant, floral, spicy and very gamey, with just a touch of black fruit beneath making it round and satisfying to sniff. Mouth entry is medium bodied and very smooth initially, with a sort of old vine creaminess, but then the sturdy tannins start to show, followed by good acidity. The mid-palate is sturdy, with dark fruits, black pepper and quite forceful tannins. On the finish pepper and strong acidity make this a challenging wine without food. *
