September 3, 2010 - While dessert wines are supposed to have more longevity than their dry counterparts (a Chateau d’Yquem from 1847 is supposedly still alive), the 2004 Sha’al never struck me as having what it took. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, while clearly past its peak with some burnt caramel creeping in, it was still exceedingly enjoyable with plenty of generous sweetness, balancing acidity and honey, apricot and citrus fruits all coming together for a great dessert.
