February 21, 2012 - Opened and decanted for one hour, consumed over the next two.

Crimson red. Barnyard, charred earth and smoke, some pleasant green notes, very powerful and complex nose that gets better with air. Great fruit for the vintage, very accessible with or without food, seamless balance, creamy mouth feel floating to the top of the palate revealing mushroom, tobacco, and asian spices on the tongue. Chocolate, espresso, and grippy but balanced earthy tannin on the medium/medium-long finish.

Great for the vintage, but not cheap by any means, and in a class behind similarly priced '09 which I think is very outstanding. Would love to drink again (surely a go-to if I spot it on a menu) as this is currently open for business, but I won't be putting any away right now. Would back up the truck at half the price, which isn't out of the question if the '09 and '10 price these out of the market. 13.5%.
