Definitely closed for business and the oak was overwhelming. By night 2, this had evolved nicely. Still black fruited and severely backward, the fruit had mellowed and plushed up nevertheless, and the oak had completely receded and given in to overall balance. While I wouldn't call this elegant, it does have a beautiful core of blackberry and black currant fruit with tar, dried herbs and earthy flavors. I thought this might be in the early stages of its drinking window, but it is still oh so young. Leave it alone if you have some, and drink lesser vintages like 1999 instead right now.
