Community Tasting Note

January 17, 2007 - Actually shows younger than the '82, with denser and more primary fruit cabined by bales of furry tannin on all sides. Even the fruit tastes granular. There was an offputting mustiness on the back end that took awhile to blow off and initially seemed corky. We drank it a few hours after a double decant and it needed a few hours more.

1/16/22, 8:13 AM - Thanks for your TN from 15 years ago. It's a low outlier, but I generally respect your TNs (based on the star I see, I must have become a "Fan" at some point). Still, the '78' score seems low against the TN text. A quick scan of your other '78's seem to be "A total dud", "destined for sauce", "Half-glass, then dumped", etc. Then again, it was 15 years ago!

    Anyway, Envoyer offering at $100.

1/16/22, 8:33 AM - Oh, I was thinking the '78' was low vs. the TN text, not high. Regarding grade inflation, when I did a quick score-sorted browse of your TNs it suggested to me that a probable reason I became a "Fan" was lack of grade inflation. I really dislike (and have Ignored dozens) the TNs ~"Kind of meh, but OK with pizza while watching MNF" - '92'.

1/16/22, 8:40 AM - I meant that 15 years ago was before the grade inflation descended on us. "Above average, but not quite good" sounds a fair synopsis of my memory of this bottle - so, somewhere between 75 and 80. These days, I confess I might feel a tug to go higher or not leave a number at all since they make so many people touchy.
