September 16, 2012 - Winemaker Peter Wellington did a great job with this late harvest Zin. Dark inky purple color. Nose of raspberries and cherry compote. Sweet entry leads to highly concentrated flavors of red & black fruits followed by some peppery spice and a tart, acidic finish. This wine has a port-like quality to it which leads me to believe that it will cellar well for 5-10 years despite the contrary opinions of some previous reviewers. With ~ 8% RS this is not overly sweet and retains the Zin varietal characteristics despite being produced as a port-ish dessert wine. Most of the sweetness is upfront, followed by intense fruits and a biting finish.
