    December 17, 2012 - Non-blind. Decanted 3 hrs, drunk over 3 hrs. (w/sommelier Ogura-san.)
We shared 3 btls from my cellar, and as the Vikings described in the Edda, the description of the World depends on your chosen horizon.

In accordance to: "A small lake has a short shore" the description would read: "2000 Château Pichon Baron was clearly the WOTN for all. Truly great! 2000 Château Croix St Georges was ok and 2001 Château Leoville Barton was the disappointment of the evening."

This explains almost nothing, since the small lake of 3 wines (albeit great) has a too small shore in order to make meaningful sense.

With (hopefully) a slightly larger lake, the following is what we'd like to say about this bottle and how it was perceived at the restaurant tonight:

    Dark-red, browning color.
Nose is wide, still with unintegrated oak and Merlot character as in predominantly raisins and that certain jamminess (but held in tight check) that comes with the varietal.
On the palate this is a wide, almost sweet tasting wine that ends with breathtaking, finely grained tannins and a 60+ second finish. The omph displayed is more than enough for any great dinner. Radiating plums, oak, earth and tobacco at no1; drying fruit as in raisins, dried figs and black cherries at no2; and rose petals, apples and a hint of mint as no3. Built to grow for many more years of pleasure...
Having grown up in Europe means I almost feel the need to repent after partaking in this wine's sinful pleasures...
