January 2, 2013 - Darkly colored. The nose on the first night is a mix of black pepper & a meaty, savory character. This is a strange, but approachable wine. Black tea, black pepper & dark berries dominate the palate. This is mostly in balance, but is quite heavy on the acid out of the gate. The tannins are silky & pretty right away. Very dry & classy cdp. Not sure what else this will show tomorrow, but am corking it to find out.

Day 2 is not being very kind to this. On one hand, the black tea & blackberry notes are more prominent & the fruity components are pure. This is however getting heavy, and the acidic quality of the seemingly healthy portion of Syrah here is holding this together, but quite haphazardly. Stewed, plummy flavors & heavy textures are creeping in. I can't imagine what improvement I'll see tomorrow, but we will be recorking until then.

What an odd bottle of wine. This is still a bit stewed on the nose, but it is showing a much more pleasant weight on the third day. This was flabby and a bit sweet yesterday, and the fruit has certainly advanced, but some acidity has re-emerged and this is more like a mountain blackberry- type fruit profile. The tannins are much more transparent as well. I'm completely baffled by this as really tasted DOA a day ago. Good to see the improvement though.
