January 9, 2013 - A much improved effort. We have held on to this case for over 5 years since buying it and as time has evolved, so has the wine, rather nicely!
Dark garnet with intense tearing. A strong aroma of earth, berries, leather-sack, with a hint of clove-spice alongside a miniscule toast hint. The taste evolves nicely in the mouth with some added peppered undertone, a 20-second lingering bouquet of jam and floral berries (contributed by the Cabernet Franc). 1/29/13, 2:44 PM - Very nice notes. I have held a magnum of this for some time now. More is available at my local for $59 and it sounds as if this wine justifies its price of admission and might be worth another purchase.

2/17/13, 6:16 PM - Thanks for the feedback. I will grab another magnum. a few others and I think Cantemerle, Lanessan, and La Tour de Mons (Margaux). It has been suggested that Olivier in Graves may be an alternative to Haut Bergey, but I think Haut Bergey has elevated their winemaking and still offer a decent value. Cheers.

2/22/13, 1:11 PM - I could not agree with you more Cantemerle, Lanessan, and La Tour de Mons (Margaux) all provide a respectable value for money and with Lanessan you know you can keep it for multiple decades (in fact it should not be touched for 20 years). I will be on the lookout for Ch. Olivier in Graves and Haut Bergey. I am enjoying a rather young specimen right now - Chateau Fleur de Bouard 2005 - a true gem and a bit unusual for a Bordeaux - get your hands on the 2005, 2008 or 2009 for a sumptuous delight.

2/22/13, 5:04 PM - Chateau Sansonnet is a great value if you like St. Emilion. The 2009 if you can still find it, is a great wine. With their coming up a level will mean price increases, but still a great wine.
