January 28, 2013 - Like every older CSS -- early over the hill. Light in color, pleasant nose somewhat complex. Not entirely without charm. bordeaux like - no Cali fruit bomb. Have been let down by many vintages -- Almost unique among great Napa cabs in its limited ability to age! disappointing but not surprising

1/28/13, 10:46 PM - I am still drinking !984, 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1988 and find them never to be early over the hill.

2/5/13, 6:40 AM - Peerhaps my expectations were too high based on the price and early appeal.

2/6/13, 8:34 AM - I think your perception is always correct but your generalizations concern me. It suggests to me the bottle you drank was tainted as the descriptors you use imply that. 1988 SS has always had a great perfume on the nose, I opened one last August, my sixth bottle of 88 SS and it was still a great nose. did you cellar this bottle or buy at auction?

2/6/13, 11:12 AM - Many CSS from the 80s disappointed in similar ways although they were not without charm. All were purchased on release and conscientiously cellared.
