March 28, 2013 - popped and poured. Dark red. Floral notes in nose; light alcohol awareness; moderate port bouquet, pleasant. Should open up as it breathes. Leather notes coming out early on.
Smooth, round fruit flavors. Alcohol should blow off quickly. Good, typical flavors. Good balance. Complexity is not yet showing through. Give it an hour or so to open up.
A bit of heat in the finish.
An hour later: With some Stilton as a chaser... Rich, sweet, warm, with rounded port flavors but a little two dimensional. A decent bottle of port for the price ($42 in '09) but a bit run of the mill - not the big gun to bring out at Christmas or Easter.
No flaws but rather simple. The nose is still good, though, so smell it a lot. After 3 hours the alcohol presence is faded and it is a bit fruitier, but no other changes.
