June 8, 2013 - Following the discussion with Papies and the not very convincing 03 St. Pierre, I decided to open another of my 03 Bdx. A smell of alcohol and port makes me very worried upon pulling the cork but after about 30-45 minutes in the decanter this settles down nicely. Dark garnet almost to the rim, then dark fruit, earth, coffee, some herbs and a bit of oak. On the palate this is very lush and fat but comes across as a bit bland. A bit like a dish cooked with plenty of butter - can be yummy but a bit simple. The wine looks in the glass and tastes on the palate like 14-14.5 alcohol but the label only states 13.5, not sure about that. Very fine tannins. Medium finish with coffee.
This is a good wine and works for me as such but by no means your typical Margaux. 90-91
PS: The rest of the bottle was showing better than a 2000 Smith Haut Lafitte on day 2.
