Community Tasting Note

  • JeffGMorris Likes this wine:

April 25, 2014 - Meetup dinner group at Capital City Club, Raleigh, NC. Bottle #14C. Perfumed prunes, oranges and dripping with honey. While all previous bottles have had laser sharp acidity it was lacking in this bottle making the wine still a great drink but a little cloying. Very long finish but cloying nature lingered marring the finish. Clearly unlike all previous bottles so rating reserved.

5/14/14, 7:47 AM - Jeff, I see you've drank this one ('01) four times over the last few years. Did you try the '95 and '98 ones as well?

5/14/14, 8:09 AM - I've had this one 8 times and the notes are all on CT. They didn't make this in '95 or '98. '01 was the first time followed by '05 which I own a few bottles of but haven't tried yet. The "regular" SGN was made in those years. Never had the '95. In '98 there were 2 denoted lot 1 & lot 2. I have had these and love them but they are not in the hypersweet range of the Larme de Lave. They have 150-200 g/l rs vs 450 g/l for the LdL so they are a different beast but I'd highly recommend them. They haven't really budged since release in terms of any secondary development but are both a fantastic drink now while still youthful.

This was the "worst" bottle of the '01 Larme de Lave I've had to date as something was a little off in the sugar/acid balance but was still very enjoyable.

5/14/14, 8:16 AM - Thank you. I suspected there was some incorrect listing in one of the stores' I looked at. (wrt 98/95) Thank you for the note on the '01s
