Community Tasting Note

  • Cuellar's Cellar Likes this wine: 89 points

July 20, 2014 - Ok, so I have Insignia from all different vintages. I just feel that this is a good wine. BUT for the price it is over rated. I feel like the scores are high due to the name. I love Phelps, but I for the price.....this wasn't worth it.

7/21/14, 11:49 AM - interesting note. For sure it's top shelf in price. I will sit on mine for a few years yet and hope it shows better. Thanks for your note. Barry

I am a touch curious about your note on the 09. Are you saying it deserves an 89 score because it is overpriced or regardless of price it is a sub 90 wine?

    Thanks. P.

I would never give a score due to the price. Sorry if that was mis-leading. In my opinion, Insignia is an amazing wine. I feel like some people give it a extremely high score due to the name. When I tasted this, I truly believe it was a good wine, just not mind blowing.
According to Wine Spectator, here is their rating:

Wine Spectator tasters review wines on the following 100-point scale:

    95-100 Classic: a great wine
90-94 Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style
85-89 Very good: a wine with special qualities

So 89 seems fitting to me.
