August 13, 2014 - Consumed over three days. A delectable bouquet jumps from the bottle and spills over from the glass. Blackcurrant, blackberry, ink, graphite, gravel, charcoal, and violets, along with hints of musk and tar. On the first day, the wine was tight yet wholly approachable. Fresh and juicy, with noticeably higher acid than tannins and of lighter weight than one might expect for a 2010 Third Growth. On the second and third days the wine added some weight, and also hinted at what it might become in ten to twelve years. On these days it featured an awesome delicious factor and went down way too easy.

The delicious approachability, freshness, light weight, and higher acid than tannin composition make this more of a playful Bordeaux than a protracted ager in my opinion. I also do not think this wine has a big upside, even with ten or more years of cellaring I do not think it will score higher than 93, on its very best day. The 2010 Retout is of equal quality and the 2010 Potensac is slightly better, IMO. Overall, this wine reminded me very much of the 1994 Leoville Barton, which was also in this lighter style.
