November 5, 2014 - Barolo (Vintage v.s. Maker) and others (Extra Space): Slow-oxed in bottle for about 2 hours and then poured into decanter for a short while before drinking. Tasted blind.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of toasted oak, earth, leather, red fruit. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red plums, dark red cherries, sweet licorice, slight leather and earth. Overall extremely well-balanced. Long finish.
Outstanding quality Brunello. 1999 is indeed a superb vintage with very well balanced Brunelli. This still feels like it could improve with further age. Any remaining bottles should be revisited in another 3-5 years.
