Community Tasting Note

  • 321Nomad Does not like this wine: 83 points

November 19, 2014 - I decanted this one or two hours. For the price, appellation, and year, I expected much more from this bottling. The oak presence is so strong that it drowns out any other flavor profile. I never understood why winemakers use Oak to the point where it is the most prominent flavor in the glass. If anyone has any recommendations for an old world Bordeaux that is not so heavily oaked, can you please make a recommendation.

1/31/15, 8:55 AM - Perhaps I can recommend some right bank bordeaux which can be drunk a little earlier? Also, maybe opting for some good cru bourgeois (Lilian ladouys, Ormes de pez, Phelan segur etc) which may not be aged in as much new oak as the grand cru classes which are built for the long haul. The wine you just drunk for example, I will not drink for another 5 years, which should allow the oak to fade into the background and the fruit/leather/vanilla to shine
