Community Tasting Note

  • Duncan Likes this wine: 90 points

March 18, 2015 - I suppose this is by nature a red wine, but it's very light in colour, and could easily be mistaken for a dark rose. Well, that's not a problem. and neither (for me) is the fact that it is distinctly cloudy: I'm guessing it is unfiltered. On the nose it has an attractive cherryish initial impact and a complex undergrowth of secondary aromas...too hard to pin down. On the palate, light as you'd expect from the colour and the 11.5% alcohol. Yet with the fleeting first impression of cherry-juice sweetness followed up immediately by a dry mid-palate, which develops into a long, dry finish with very fine tannins. This wine puzzled me at first - neither red nor rose, light but persistent, sweet-smelling but dry on the palate - but as my glass empties I find I like it more and more. Thirst-quenching, certainly. But there's a lot more to it than that. Screwcap.

3/18/15, 3:20 PM - great note, Duncan. Will keep an eye out. Only ever had their Chenin Blanc and was pleasantly surprised.

3/20/15, 3:49 PM - 24 hours later, and bottom half of the bottle wine has developed an incredibly string smell of wet dog. On the palate it's pleasant and similar to my impressions yesterday. But on the nose it's unpleasantly doggy... (Thanks W-S: I have the Nudity Syrah still to try.)
