November 7, 2015 - 2015 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium - Kelly and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/3/2015-11/9/2015 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Much better showing than the Wednesday bottle. Expressive nose displaying perfectly ripe black fruits intertwine with Vosne spices, dark flowers, mocha, musk and a hint of stems. Very polished palate, incredibly layered, mouth puckering tannins and lovely long finish. Definitely expressing the typical vintage character of ripe fruits with formidable structure, especially acidity. This needs at least another ten years. Perhaps most backward La Tache of the night. One day when acidity gets fully integrated, this will be perfect as the fruit is very pure. I recommend not to open it for another five years even if you have a case or more.

11/13/15, 10:32 AM - Nice note! I'll almost certainly never taste this wine, or possibly any DRC, but it's interesting to hear how they're structured and evolve over time. I don't think it's ever been said of the greatest New World pinots, "This needs at least another ten years." It truly is a different World over there.

11/13/15, 10:40 AM - I love drinking La Tache as I find them very special. Having said that $2k is a lot of money to piss away. I had a village Volnay from the 64 which was drinking beautifully. Red Burgundy in general improves with cellaring, gaining additional complexity. I have not had the same experiences with domestic Pinot.
