December 22, 2015 - Same provenance as a delicious bottle from back in May, 2015, and similarly tasty. Lots of pineapple and other tropical fruits, and a bright, mineral backbone holding everything together. This is very early maturity for this wine, like a precocious 19 year old.

    12/23/15, 6:49 AM - Hi David

Had the '01 WS Kabinett the other day. Opening nicely. It had the beginnings of the burnished fruit inner mouth glow of the great '90s. Any sense of that in this wine? Do you think the Spatlese would benefit from decanting/aeration time? I've been staying away from the '01s being patient for the magic of age but maybe it's time to start drinking a few.

    Happy Holidays
    Jeff

12/23/15, 1:32 PM - Nice to hear on the '01 Kabinett. I have had this auslese a few times recently because my father had some in his cellar. I have actually not opened any of my own bottles of 2001 Prum auslese or spatlese, so no thoughts on decanting the spatlese, except that decanting Prum never, ever hurts!

12/23/15, 2:03 PM - Thanks. Like you I think I'll hold off on anything above Kabinett. I think the Auslese magnums I have that came from a mixed Prum auction lot may not see even adolescence until age 50!!!

12/23/15, 2:22 PM - Probably true. I have zero idea why I bought 2012 Prum mags, as they will clearly outlive me.

12/23/15, 3:29 PM - I stopped buying with the 2005 vintage for those reasons and already having an insane amount of wine.

12/23/15, 4:39 PM - No mags, but I did still just buy a mixed case of '14 Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr bottlings.
