if you tasted a 2003 napa cab that tasted the same, you would definitely not have said "this is in a closed phase" instead you would say "fruit has faded with age... near the end of its drinking window... drink up." -

If you had argued that there was bottle variation I may have hedged, but over 35+ years of wine tasting I have encountered closed "dumb" phase in many areas' wines and many bottles. Given what I tasted from this bottle in the past, I stand by my review.

2/19/16, 4:37 PM - Fair enough. Maybe after I achieve 35+ years of wine tasting, I would understand this 'closed phase' that you speak of. But my theory on wine aging simple: the tannins, acid, and fruits fade as it ages; nothing pops out of nowhere in the aging process.
