July 6, 2016 - Jean Stodden Winery Visit (Rech, Germany); 7/4/2016-7/10/2016 (Rech, Germany (Ahr Valley)): Tasted at the winery with Alexander Stodden. We were lucky that he had a bottle of this open because it is not normally available for tasting. The 2010 vintage of this wine finished first in a Decanter tasting for best Pinot Noir outside of Burgundy. This wine was only released in May 2016. The grapes are sourced from the oldest vines in the Grand Cru Recher Herrenberg vineyard. Herrenberg is a South facing steeply sloped (60% slope) and terraced vineyard. The vines used for this wine are 90 years old and are ungrafted making them extremely unique and valuable. Aged in 100% new oak barriques. amazing how well this young wine showed. Ruby red color. Subtle integrated tannins. Smooth and silky texture. The most feminine of his wines and very elegant. Notes of slate, black cherries, strawberries and wet stones. Long finish. This wine is extremely long aged. Purchased one for $105. I won't touch mine for years. 95-96 points.

5/1/19, 12:42 AM - Great tasting story. thanks. Besides the alte Reben, which was your favorite vineyard? Sonnenberg, Herrenberg, Rosenthal?

5/2/19, 1:50 PM - Of the 3 you mentioned, I would lean toward the Sonnenberg. Although my favorite vineyard in the Ahr would be the Krauterberg near Walporzheim. The Garkammer vineyard near Walporzheim is also very special but it is a monopole site and only Adeneuer makes wines from there.
