July 16, 2017 - This wine is BLACK! For a 2004, seeing the color, deepest darkest black/purple I was astonished. But I've always felt #blackwinesmatter, so I forged onward. The fruit was in there "somewhere" - however the earthy flavors and smells were super evident. I was unsure what to make of them, mostly. And then my sense memory kicked in! After a couple of hours in the glass this wine was smelling seriously like the can of old used bacon grease my Mom used to keep under the sink (she'd pour the bacon grease into is whenever she cooked bacon). A bit salty, very meaty, and a little funk - okay a lot of funk! So, interesting wine. Probably last forever as far as I can tell. But I had about a glass and a half and called it a night. Unsure what to tell you at this point.
