January 2, 2018 - This wine was really impressive and surprising. Very expressive with a floral nose, light body, but well-balanced and long finish. Not as "overcooked" as many BC pinots tend to be, probably because it its location. I would say this was one of my big discoveries of 2017.

1/3/18, 9:57 PM - I had the Lagrimas Negras a few weeks ago expecting nothing good. I too was really surprised. I couldn't believe I was drinking a wine from the island (and I'm from the Island). Although it's not a bargain ($32), I'd buy it again. There's another Island winery (formerly Dragonfly Hill), now called Rathjen Cellars. They have a blend called Wine Bunker Red and it's $22 and also really surprising.

Thanks for the tips on Island wines. I will try to track some down.

1/4/18, 6:00 PM - I'll take that as a compliment! I only started drinking BC wines about ten years ago because my buddy had some nice stuff, albeit pricey. It's been a great journey and we've come a long way and decent prices to boot. However, until recently, I always told people I never tasted an island wine I could say I enjoyed (although this same buddy said Averill Creek pinot was good). I am still doubtful I'll become a fan of island wine, but there's real promise!
ps: the Lagrimas Negras is a Cherry Point product.
