Community Tasting Note

  • Vino Me wrote: 90 points

April 23, 2018 - Tasted at the winery. Barrel sample. A blend of clones 115, 943, SW and Calera from 4 year old vines. Clear ruby color. Notes of wet stones, cranberry and some blackberry. Solid grip on the finish at present. 89-91 points.

4/29/20, 12:00 AM - Vino Me: follow your tasting notes re Michigan wines. I am curious, who in Michigan do you believe produces at a similar level of quality as Wyncroft these days?

5/6/20, 1:47 PM - I follow the wineries in SW Michigan much closer than up North since I have a vineyard near South Haven so I'll confine my recommendations to the SW part of the State. I really like how Modales has started out. They only opened their tasting room a year ago but have some impressive wines. Also White Pine, Karma Vista and Dablon have some nice wines but not at the same level as Wyncroft. I'll be revisiting a lineup from Hickory Creek for the first time since they came under new ownership in the next few days and will post notes.

5/13/20, 11:18 PM - Thanks so much for replying! I am curious, any experience with domaine berrien cellars? I have never had their wines but that is another name I hear brought up.

6/17/20, 2:04 PM - Never visited that winery. Passed it by many times but never stopped in. They specialize in Rhone varietals which in my opinion are not the best suited grapes for SW Michigan. I will visit at some point.
