February 26, 2021 - Dark, opaque deep red color to the rim, with a reticent nose of blue/black fruit laced with vanilla bean. The mouthfeel is fairly light to medium in spite of its varietal profile, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Sangiovese, accompanied by a dusty component that gives up more fruit on the late mid-palate and finish.
A very elegant wine that, with warming to “room temperature,” reveals more fruit, tinged with a flavor of sweet grape skin sediment and slightly muted varietal flavors, initially on the palate.
Given the varietal composition and regional origin, the wine’s flavors are not as intensely concentrated than one might expect from the same Meritage presentation originating from new world growing etiologies, which is not in any way a negative assessment, but only a point of reference. This delicious wine has aged wonderfully and is a delicious compliment to our crab cakes.
