May 7, 2021 - Château Giscours, Margaux, 2018: While a couple producers or so struggled to keep the ripeness in check, 2018 overall has yielded some truly impressive Bordeaux wines. Giscours, as always, does not disappoint. Dark, inky purple. On the nose, raspberries, cassis, blueberries, dried violets and cedar box. Full-bodied, with a velvety, rich and vibrant mouthfeel. The palate shows great purity, and layers slowly unfolding with complex notes of ripe cassis, raspberries and wild blueberries that while ripe and juicy never feel jammy. On the mid-palate, pencil shavings, rich and savory notes of loam and earth, along with luxurious tobacco and hints of iron, medium-plus acidity and tight, powdery tannins enveloping the mouth with dark chocolate-covered espresso beans and umami undertones lingering on a long and racy finish. Gorgeous wine. 14.5% Abv. Drink 2030-2042. 95-96
