August 13, 2021 - Similar thoughts as a couple years ago. Dark red and black fruit - blackberry, currants, dark cherry, and dark raspberry. Really smooth mid-palate with a beautiful purity and nice depth/concentration. Nice rich flavors of dark berries, some spice/licorice, cocoa, and a graphite component. However, I thought the finish was somewhat lacking - a little short/not much depth. The blend shows in my opinion. Popped/poured but drank out of a decanter for a couple hours. Not much improvement with time but at a nice drinking point. In my opinion, in line with the 94 rating from WA. Almost entirely cab sauvignon with some petit verdot.

8/13/21, 6:17 AM - This was the first Carter I ever drank. Back when my ceiling of wine buys was $100 or less. Oh how far we've come. Good review as always. Looks like it is still drinking decently. Will have to pop one soon.

8/13/21, 6:56 AM - It’s drinking quite well, however, I just wish it wasn’t blended with petit verdot. I don’t usually like how petit verdot finishes and it shows with this wine in my opinion. Take care.

8/13/21, 7:18 AM - Nice note Badmonkey. The 2019 Carter Fortuna is really good, perhaps the early showing of this vintage yet in my experience and opinion. Unfortunately it does have a splash of that dreaded 'Petit Verdot' grape. I'm considering a picking up a 6 pack and I expect to go lite in 2020, the consensus is not a good one for that vintage.

8/13/21, 7:25 AM - I never seem to mind the Petit. Fortunate for me...lol

Yack - Which of the 19 Carters did you end up buying? I've only done the OG/Verdad/Compadres/GTO so far. Debating when to do the others but struggling as they all showed well.

8/13/21, 7:32 AM - Heavy on the Las Verdad (a wine that is on the way 100 points I believe), O.G. Carter -Carter, 3 Kings, Weitz ..... but I'm not done yet! They are ALL excellent wines that are very approachable in their youth.

8/13/21, 7:34 AM - The Verdad definitely was strong. Actually grabbed a case of that myself. Still wondering if I should've gone for more...ha. Appreciate the insight. Glad we have some time to decide on these. Let's my credit card not literally melt.

8/13/21, 7:39 AM - Yack, I don’t know what it is with me and petit verdot but I thought it was glaring with the 15 vintage. I thought it was also noticeable with the 14 vintage but not as glaring. A shame for me because other than the finish with the 15 vintage it was tremendous - I would have rated it a couple points higher if it wasn’t for the finish. I’m looking forward to tasting the 19 Carter cabs in November/December when my shipment arrives. Sounds like I need to pick-up even more in light of your thoughts. Have a nice weekend.
