Community Tasting Note

December 8, 2021 - We think of Provence as a land of elegance and wealth, well-heeled holidaymakers and retirees sipping delicate roses as they gaze out over the Mediterranean. Yet here is Bandol, the greatest and most famous of the area's wines, and it's as delicate as a bear in a boudoir. It's impenetrable, biting, tannic, completely unseductive - and I love it for its refusal to be anything else but itself. Long may it remain ornery and...not mean...ornery and Bandol. Cork, 14%.

12/9/21, 1:49 PM - A day later, the remainder of the carafe is - as always - even better. Just a touch rounder, softer, sweeter. The essential character of the wine is unchanged, but the bear is singing not growling tonight. I’m going to increase the mark from 91 to 93.
