December 15, 2021 - Intense, bright, glass-staining purple - opaque. An attractive nose of berry juice - hinting at freshness - with perhaps something green (Menthol?) but then again a whisp of smoke. Yes, it's complex, and every-changing. On the palate the sweetness I expected isn't there. Yes, the generous fruit (bramble and blackcurrant, I think) is ripe, but most notable is a juicy freshness, a zinginess. The finish is very long, with the length coming from the acidity rather than the very fine and subtle tannins. It's aged in new and used oak for over a year, but that's far from a defining feature of the wine. All in all, a great match for the Aberdeen Angus steak I'm having with it, and a very sophisticated Malbec: one of the best I've ever tasted. 14%, cork.

12/16/21, 2:44 PM - After 24 hours, a return to the second half of the bottle. The freshness is still there, but the fruit seems ever rich and, finally, sweeter. The length of the mouthfeel and the persistence of the flavours - blackcurrant, mint - is remarkable. Even more impressive than I thought yesterday.
