Community Tasting Note

  • StefanAkiko Does not like this wine:

March 25, 2022 - Our scores are both around 80, and this is obviously not our cup of tea.

Great acidity and tannic build, but other than that... *pft* nothing. It's thin. Terribly thin.

If you like Burgundy, then you may like also this. If you are like us and don't quite "get it" with Burgundy, you're likely to feel that you wasted your money and an evening for ... nothing.

    An utterly non-interesting wine.

It may still not be your cup of tea, but at least you’ll know you tasted it at its best. Kanpai!

  • sfwinelover1 commented:

    3/25/22, 11:16 AM - That’s a whole other conversation, Gordy . . .

3/25/22, 12:30 PM - Interesting datapoint. Thinness is definitely curious. Wonder if there's a bad lot or potentially this was a counterfeit? Do you have any details on where this was sourced from? Maybe there's a bad batch of bottles for us to watch out for.

It really seems out of character of what's expected of this wine. In my experience, even young Flaccianello appeals to new world palates (good density), especially in big years.

  • StefanAkiko commented:

3/25/22, 8:24 PM - There may very well come a time when a mature Flaccianello is in my glass, hoping for a much better experience.

Main important aspect is: We're happy when the glasses in front of us make us smile :-)

  • sfwinelover1 commented:

3/26/22, 8:17 AM - Perfectly said, SA. We’re all just writing what we experience with a particular bottle moment, and the reason we’re doing this (the drinking) is the enjoyment of the experience. While there’s a lot of color between the lines in that, the wine ultimately passes or fails that experience. My thought in writing wasn’t too criticize, but just to suggest if you have an opportunity in the future in the future, how that experience *might* get to a better point. Sorry this bottle didn’t pass the test, for whatever reason, on that particular night.

3/26/22, 9:43 AM - SF: no worries. My skin is thick from many long years of life and I have become quite proficient in spotting good hearts among more immature ones :-)
All feedback aims at growth and there's this intense curiosity to want to understand WHY is this wine so great etc.
Understood Bdx in the first glass I ever had, almost 40 years ago. Same with Oz Shiraz, Sauternes, Mosel and so many other things. Hopefully, Flaccianello in a more mature version spreads out its wings for us. So that we both may say:
"Whereas once I was blind, now I can see." :-)

3/27/22, 5:08 AM - If I may add mine… I often found Flaccianello thin, boring, harsh, not worth the money…
And it tuned out that it was in a closed stage.
    I hope you‘ll find your Flaccianello-moment Stefan!

  • StefanAkiko commented:

3/27/22, 5:42 AM - EMAZ, wife and I also hope so.

  • mimik commented:

5/24/22, 7:22 PM - I don’t see the need to criticize one for their taste. It’s clear the Stefan doesn’t like the wine or ones that are more delicate like Burgundy. He’s seems to like cali cabs or more rich, riper styles and so be it. He didn’t diss anyone in making the comment. I just think it’s a shame really that Stefan might be missing out on some of the worlds greatest wines due to the lack of exposure to them( ie burgundy)

  • sfwinelover1 commented:

5/25/22, 7:23 AM - This is an entirely baffling comment, since no one on this thread is criticizing anyone, just suggesting that this bottling may take on more harmonious characteristics with more bottle age. I’m not sure what you’re trying to do here, but I think the original poster and the commenters are all on the same page.

  • mimik commented:

5/25/22, 7:42 AM - ‘If you don’t get burgundy you don’t get wine?’ Are you still baffled?

  • sfwinelover1 commented:

5/25/22, 9:03 AM - I’m baffled why you felt the need to inject yourself into a conversation that was resolved months ago. I guess some people have too much time on their hands.

  • mimik commented:

5/25/22, 9:08 AM - Sorry to ruffle your feathers, your highness. You realized your comment was incorrect so instead you are questioning why I’m intervening in a Public Post in a Public forum. I think you are quite silly and I’ll leave it at that.

  • StefanAkiko commented:

5/28/22, 10:41 AM - Mimik: you are certainly off your chum. Whatever makes you happy, makes you happy :-)
Wine's just like religion, you can decide that if some ppl think Wotam and Thor ar the coolest, that you are fine with that. Or, …

  • sfwinelover1 commented:

5/28/22, 10:44 AM - SA: Being on this thread is worthwhile just to be able to read “off your chum”; thank you for that. :)

  • mimik commented:

5/28/22, 11:09 AM - You guys are comical. Getting ´off’ on the use of the chum. Kids, enjoy your hobby

  • StefanAkiko commented:

5/28/22, 11:11 AM - Thankyou SFW, I wish my prime language was English, but as it's Swedish, I’m just struggling. Happy to be communicating over borders of all kinds :-)

  • StefanAkiko commented:

5/28/22, 11:14 AM - Mimik: as u r clearly off ur chum, you need to get up and enjoy the fact that the World is an amazing place, AND more vast than you may have ever imagined… ENJOYY ! ! !

  • mimik commented:

5/28/22, 12:27 PM - Thank you so much.

  • StefanAkiko commented:

6/7/22, 8:34 AM - Mimik: I can inform you that ai got a more mature btl of this wine. Just to make sure how my taste uds agree, disagree or go blind. I may as well be off my chum to not get red Bgn, bubbly Champoo (or have a gigalarge enough wallet to drink that shit on high levels regularly), but I do have my personal taste. It's well educated and sensitive. Surely different to other's or mainstream or loud-mouths. Nevertheless, I claim my personal corner of this wine world we all share.
As long as what’s in the glass in front of you makes you happy. That's bliss :-)

  • Floyd77 commented:

    8/23/22, 8:50 PM - I assume this tasting note is parody …

  • StefanAkiko commented:

8/23/22, 9:13 PM - Floyd: Not a parody at all and according to our tastes, we should theoretically love this! Nevertheless, the wife and I were grossly disappointed by this btl. However, the two sommeliers had their eyes rolling from pleasure. I thus procured a more mature btl (2007) for (hopeful) pleasures in the near-ish future. As we all know, tastes differ and change over the years. Could also be a case of "me-variation" or simply that this isn't for us.

  • Pietro G. commented:

2/3/24, 8:09 PM - Terribly thin? I think you have got a flawed bottle.
    FLACCIANELLO is everything but THIN!

    Peace!

  • StefanAkiko commented:

    2/8/24, 9:58 AM - Dear Pietro,
Our other (more mature) Flaccianellos have all been amazing. On paper, their '16 should be great.
Our hope is that the next one steeps us in greatness :-)

  • mimik commented:

2/9/24, 4:46 PM - I think you should try another bottle. Maybe from a different. It’s clear your bottle was flawed

  • StefanAkiko commented:

2/10/24, 10:33 AM - Mimik: Recently gave 98p To Flaccianello 2007. I prefer maturity over youthful fruit. ...and Muscadet :-)
    Cheers!

  • mimik commented:

2/10/24, 12:36 PM - Great stuff. Post your notes when you try another bottle of the 16’. I’m sure they won’t be the same.

  • StefanAkiko commented:

2/11/24, 6:19 AM - It may happen in ~10 years' time.
But, the way the prices are heading, I wouldn't count on it. Then again, you never know what hits you at blind-tasting events ;-)
