Made from Şarbă, the relatively recent Romanian cross of Tâmâioasâ Românească with Graševina. Pale, lemony green. Honeyed, aromatic nose with charming lychee notes. Mid-weight, elegantly textured and well poised with crisp acidity and a fresh-fruited aftertaste.

Retailer tasting. Not many notes. Local grape. Nicely dry and slightly aromatic wine. Muscatel impressions. medium acidity at best. Ok and clean wine. Terrace wine.

This Romanian Şarbă -- an intriguing varietal produced in the 1970s by crossing Riesling and the indigenous Tămâioasă Românească -- is very much like a light Gewürztraminer, with pronounced lychee and floral (rose, in particular) notes, but with a cutting, refreshing lemon citrus-mineral streak that almost seems like Greek Assyrtiko, as well as pepper bringing a touch of spice. There's not much in the way of depth or length, and there's a mildly bitter pithy note on the finish, but it's quite tasty overall, the elements holding together nicely, and it's a great value.

The wine is clear and bright with a medium gold colour.

The nose is clean and fully developed, showing medium intensity aromas of fruit development (peaches jam, yellow apple, quince), bottle ageing (honey, walnuts) and green fruit (ripe pear).

The wine is dry in the mouth with a medium acidity. It has low soft tannins and a medium alcohol. It has a medium body and medium(+) intensity flavours of fruit development (peaches jam, yellow apple, quince), bottle ageing (honey, walnuts) and green fruit (ripe pear). The finish is medium.

It is a good quality wine. It has some flavour concentration and a correct balance between alcohol and acidity. However the finish could be longer, and it could be more expressive and complex.

Drink now, the wine is already fully developed and probably approaching its decline.

Golden color, subdued nose. Full bodied wine, slightly grassy (it reminded me a bit of Sauvignon Blanc) with oily texture and a hint of alcohol at the slightly bitter finish. Pretty low acidity and overall a bit out of focus. Interesting but surely not the best example of Furmint and nothing I will buy again.

This is my first ever Slovenian wine and I was quite impressed. Had I tasted it blind, I might have thought that it was an Australian Riesling. It certainly has a touch of the lime sherbet flavour that I associate with that wine. The fruit is quite rich, but dry, with good weight and some style. Towards the end of the bottle, we lost interest somewhat, but we often do with white wines.

A little too alcoholic for my taste but perhaps just because I was in the mood for something a little lighter and more refreshing at the time.

The Sipon’s colour looked very vital and juvenile. A fresh green-yellow and a bit strawy reflection provided me with a strange but explainable desire for refreshment. Expalantion: It was more than 30 C. The nose was very subtle and intriguing. I guess it is not that easy to find a white wine in the price range well below 10 Euros with such a varying and delicately expressive bouquet like this Benedict series Sipon. The first few hours I experienced a constantly shifting potpourri of lime, grapefruit, lemon, hints of brushwood and fresh cut firs, maybe even some resin, green pepper and more and more. Some hours later and on the next day exotic fruits, slight petrol, grapefruit, pepper, lemon and earthy features made the job. Very subtle, sometimes elegant and very sniffy’ful nose! However, my palatal experience wasn’t that joyful. The taste was very clear and surly tidy, but unfortunately pretty one-dimensional, rough, rustic and a bit mean - compared to the very decent nose. I got strong, very dry and very acidic flavours of grapefruit, lemon and on the second day here and there some indefinable exotic flavours. Ok, it might have been a bit too young, because on the second day it developed a slightly more pleasing character, but anyway that does not explain the second problem: The alcohol. It had (just) 13,5%, but it felt much more. In taste and personal body chemistry. Maybe it was the heat!?! Umm, I don't think so ...! In conclusion: Great nose and "not so great" taste. You better invest a bit more and grab for the Dveri Pax Sipon Ilovci! Without suchits beautiful nose, definitely no 85P

Furmint. Fully developed earthy nose with herbs and flowers with some oak use. Elegant and mineral on palate with punchy acidity, good definition and pure flavours. Taut but precise. I love DP.

Dry, a little muted, herby. Went well with pasta in tuna & pesto sauce, but in a way that dry, simple Italian whites go well. The food made it a bit more open and even a touch of sweetness. On it's own afterwards bone dry and austere.
Good but perhaps a little bland for me.... Actually i take that back, it's better as it warms up and some lovely acidity to this.
Two days later (inert gas) and perfect match to asparagus soup.

Vinitaly 2016; 4/10/2016-4/13/2016 (Verona, Italy): (Sipon is the local name for Furmint, 10.50% alcohol and 300gr/lt)
The nose is beautiful, clean, lemon, ripe apricot, pineapple and stone fruit. The palate is also great with high acidity, very ripe fruit, copying the profile of the nose, beautiful structure, sweet but not overly cloying and a quite long finish. Outstanding effort

Wax, nectarine and citrus smell, quite subdued. Some soft oaky and lactic smells. Medium bodied with plenty of acid. Perhaps a touch of residual sugar, but nicely balanced. Slightly metallic on the finish. Good.

100% Furmint. Alcohol 13%, 2 g/lresidual sugar, 6,4 g/l acidity.

Very pale color of an unripe lemon. Very small bubbles form on the inside of the glass. The nose is very expressive, fruit-forward and slightly sweet with pretty powerful aromas of pineapples, plantains, apricot marmalade candies, a little bit of creaminess, a hint of mango and a touch of freshly pressed apple juice. Really, lots of everything happening here. The wine is quite rich, ripe and moderately full-bodied on the palate. It is so rich that it feels quite opulent and almost soft at first, but then a bright streak of racy acidity steps in, giving the wine good sense of structure. There are lots of fruit-forward flavors like very ripe red apples, pear, star fruit, some ripe yellow damsons, a little bit of that spicy Furmint character and a green streak of grass. Also a subtle streak of crisp, steely minerality seems to grow towards the aftertaste. Overall the wine feels very fruit-forward, yet really fresh, structured and balanced at the same time. The finish is a bit more brighter, savory and less fruity with long, refreshing flavors of steely minerality, some star fruit, a little bit of lemony citrus fruits and a hint of almost unripe, tart pear.

A really wonderful, modern and fruit-forward Furmint with tremendous balance and great structure. Perhaps a bit over-the-top in its exuberant fruitiness, but with this good acidity and minerality, I'm not complainin'. An overperformer in its price range - at 8,50€ this was a steal. I'm not sure how a super-fruity wine like this will evolve, but I guess this wine is really made for immediate enjoyment. Wonderful stuff, recommended.

Lemon with a muted nose that gives nothing, admittedly this is just out of the fridge. With time it warms up and gives lemon and lime aromas. To taste it’s got lime, lemon sherbet, dried herb and a pronounced chalky finish.

Fresh fruit notes up front with a touch of savory. Palate is clean but interesting, short. Very good at $16.

Such a fun wine. This seems a little more citrusy then I remember last vintage, which I thought of white fruits, but who knows. Texture like a Gruner, light and soft and so easy to drink. Medium acid. Super delicious, fun good value wine. Really enjoy this producer, especially this wine

A sauvignon blanc rendition of Furmint. Maybe a touch of pineapple spritz going on there.

100% hand-harvested Furmint coming from Stajerska in north-east Slovenia. Just 11,5% alcohol with 2 gr/lt of residual sugar.
Bone-dry with piercing acidity this features green apple and pear aromas on the nose and the palate yet this is more mineral than fruity. Long, persisting finish.

Fermented. Napeolean apparently liked Furmint and called it Ci Bon! So in This country they call is Sipon. Full and round, leesy and pretty delicious. Super tasty with a fleshy mid palate.

Crisp and clean on the nose with an interesting Furmint smell. Fairly light and crispy, not a whole lot going on but maybe more interesting for it. Citric-ly sour on the palate.

Fresh, beautiful and surprisingly complex. Dry furmint is IMO a very underrated style and Slovenia is a very underrated wine country. Combine them and you'll get a wonderful wine. With great acidity smooth mouthfeel and notes of pear, lemon, gooseberry, white peach and fresh cut grass.

White flowers, orange peel, ripe soursop, ripe papaya and bitter honey on the enticing nose. Medium + intensity of aromas. The palate is simpler, showing different fruits from the nose. It shows flavors of ripe pineapple, lemon juice, orange juice and ripe white peaches and a hint of bitter yeast. Tart passion fruit on the all too quick finish. Only a medium intensity of flavors here, and overall it feels a tad thin in my mouth. The nose was much more interesting!

Medium body with medium + acid. The thinness on the palate prevents this from being REALLY inspiring; but it's very nice indeed for easy drinking. Drink now.

Golden color. Concentrated, elegant wine with quince on the nose and broad, bright flavors of yellow delicious apple and pineapple guava (aka feijoa). Presents like a high-end California chardonnay (Hanzell, say). Outstanding.

A 100% Skrlet vinified with natural yeasts in steel tanks with the lees.

Medium deep golden yellow color. Rich, autolytic nose, which reminds me of Champagne with its roasted almond and faint toast aromatics. Fruit-wise, there are notes of ripe apple and citrus peel. Dry, medium-bodied in the mouth with moderate acidity. Flavors of ripe citrus fruit, some hay and a little yeasty, Champagne-like autolytic nuances. A bit thin and short finish with flavors of ripe citrus fruits, quince, some apple and a touch of autolytic yeast.

Very interesting and refreshing white, that is on the other hand rather simple and bucolic, but on the other hand very unique and characterful with its pronounced autolytic aromas and flavors. Very interesting effort; I am not totally in love with it, but I am more positively than negatively surprised by it. 23 Kn (3,03€) for a 10 cl glass in veggie restaurant Nishta, Dubrovnik.

Bottle purchased at a store in Voloder, Croatia for roughly 6 dollars - which is quite low for a vrhunsko-class wine in Croatia, Their other wines seem to be around 3$, so there IS a big difference anyway. Škrlet is a variety autochthonous more or less to the Moslavina area of Croatia, and relatively rare / hard to find, but good things can be heard about it. I've only tried it this year for the first time - and home-made to boot so I was interested how a pro example would taste like.

It poured a shiny pale greenish golden body. Sweetish soft mild fresh aroma, pleasant enough, gummi bears mixed with rose water. All in all, smells very nice. The taste is quite interesting, a bit unique too. There is certainy a fruity tart note, not strong, but a bit sharp nevertheless, completely surrounded by a slick and silky but slightly heavy sweetish fruity background (vaguely orange jelly, sweetish yet citrusy in a way, vaguely soft apple) with some peppery notes. A three-prong assault really, working separately but not entirely together in my opinion. It's definitely a good wine, but doesn't work for me as much as I hoped it would. 82.5
