Drank at Raouls in NYC with friends. Just exquisite … close to an hour decant and it opened to remind you why we are patient with good wines.

Fruit forward mostly dark berries.
Hint of toast.
Very rounded and a bit boring but passable.

Clean, good acid, but just a little too much skin contact for me, which detracts from the fruit and terroir.

Not decanted, Glassvin Universal stems. I’m going to describe this in a way I almost never do for domestic Bordeaux-style blends: this is a Bordeaux ringer. I would never peg this as a 6-years-past-vintage red from Washington. Ruby red clear color. Nose has spice, slate, herb, and red fruit. Firm drying tannin. I’m not sure what I think other than I’ll wait on the rest for a few years. $19.99 Redacted wine from FP. One very non-Bordeaux thing: a ridiculously large and heavy bottle.

Because I really enjoy Chateau le Puy, I decided to try this wine as it is owned and produced by the same family.

When I first tried this wine (pop n’pour), I was not impressed as it is quite light bodied and did not seem to have a lot of fruit. But now that it has been opened for an hour, I am warming up to it, a little bit.

It is light in alcohol at 12%, light bodied and has some nice red fruit, no oak, and light tannins. For the price, it is okay, but I prefer fuller bodied Bordeaux.

pale to medium gold in the glass. Stony, mineral driven nose with hints of buttered popcorn and soft citrus. Subtle notes of fresh baked bread. Palate follows suit with light floral undertones. Effervescent with ripe acidity. Lingering finish is highlighted by notes of granite and saline.

another stunning wine from the team at Arietta. Deep and concentrated in the glass. Opaque purple core with red rim. Aromas of red and black fruit alongside fresh cut flowers. Balanced, but intense, this wine has great depth and character with a progression of fruit, earthy, and oak notes.

concentrated ruby with a graded pink and copper rim. Dark fruit, roasted coffee grounds, and baking spice. Palate is full with moderate alcohol, integrated tannins, and a lengthy finish. Blend of 50% Cab, 22% Merlot, 14% Malbec, 7% Cab Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot

Pinot Noir is a hard grape for the very restrained style of Matthiasson. This restrained grape is handled delicately in this light tough expression of the varietal. Very clean, light and airy. Probably not to everybody’s taste, but interesting to drink this varietal as it is expressed in the hands of the truly talented Matthiasson.

Deep Ruby in the glass. Pronounced aromas of black cherry, currant, bay leaf, dried sage, and leather. Moderate alcohol, low viscosity, youthful acidity, and elongated tannins. In the palate, ripe cherry, crushed rock, and dried herbs. Finish is endless with notes of red fruit, subtle spice, and mild florals.

PHILLY CT GATHERING - DR CRANE
this wine stood out amongst the other Cranes, as the most beguiling - intense aromas of kirsch, lilacs and pepper. Dense, rich black fruits - cassis, blackberries, hints of mocha, expresso and anise with touches of raw tobacco. tremendous purity of fruit layered with sublime minerality. maybe only a point or two better than the crowd, but standing out, amongst its peers, is impressive - thanks Andy!

Ruby in color with red/pink rim. Bright bruit aromas paired with soft oak and fresh cut herbs. Black cherry, raspberry, crushed gravel, dill, and English cucumber. Medium bodied, medium plus acidity, silky tannins. Elegant and complex; a thought provoking wine.

I really enjoyed this wine. Don’t remember what I paid for it. If it was < $50, I would buy it again. In two words, “creamy” and “tropical”.

Of course, last bottle in the cellar always the best! Aging wonderfully...still reminding me of a riper aged Cru Chablis...has that iodine, crushed limestone, salty sea air...the fruit is SO pure and crystalline...pitted orchard, butter sauteed green apple...still a huge cut of lemon citrus...blanched almonds...pretty white flower florals...dried honey...REALLY nice balance of richness and energy...just the slightest alc nip and wood spice just to show where you really are...should have plenty more left in the tank on this one...such a great Chardonnay!

Pale salmon color in the glass with rich nose of raspberry and apricot. Fresh acidity, medium-full body, and very faint velvety tannin on the palate. Fairly concentrated flavors of white peach, strawberry, and lemon with a reasonably long finish. Really nicely made - you could have fooled me if you said it was from Provence.

Some citrus and lovely flower notes, beautiful light gold color, dried orange peel and apricot flavors in the month. Good structure and Actually the fruit turns quite dry and remarkably almost tannic on the finish for a white. Age worthy to be sure.

Retail $40. Heavy Bottle (). Under cork. There is very little info about this wine on the winery website. 100% Viognier? I have no idea. Yellow, on the verge of golden in the glass (time on oak? no idea), with what one would expect from a Viognier: an aromatic fruity nose of tree fruit (apricot), citrus (lemon) and tropical fruit (banana, guava), along with a healthy dose of whit acacia flower. The palate comes off as touch sweet (residual sugar? I have no idea), with plenty of fruit and a spicy element that is quite nice. Another solid effort from Aridus. 90 Points.

Side by side with the 2014 Lanessan, Cantemerle is better. Last year, did the same comparison with 2010s, and Lanessan was the winner as Cantemerle came off a little chunky and overdone. This 2014 Cantemerle is in a good place: very fragrant - violets and oak - and beautifully balanced on the palate between cherry and plum fruit, pleasant tannic grip, and fresh acidity. 2014 is really a drinker's vintage, I love it. The oak is a little too much for my taste. Will follow for several days and see how it evolves.

Incredible wine. 4 hour decant. Bright fruited, lots of red cherry, concrete, little tobacco, baking spices, graphite and rock dust. Vivacious, boisterous and appealing. Only downside was it kinda felt hot/burning at the finish. It’s rare I ever get that cause I love big Napa wines. I’d love to get more and age them a bit.

Tasted with VHR ‘14 which was loved more by wife and I. More age and better development must have helped.

Gotta try Kep’s OVR next. Cheers

My first Morgen Long Chardonnay and I'm impressed. Showing exceptional balance with great intensity and length - still very youthful with bright fruit and zesty notes. Should evolve nicely over next 2-4 years and drink well for 5+ years beyond.

2022 was not an easy vintage in Sonoma, saying that this is a very solid effort, there is a lack of brightness in nearly all Pinot Noirs I have tasted from this vintage, yet with this wine there is still wonderful layers and textured on the mid-palate, dark plum, bruised cherry, a little fig and crushed florals. The palate is slightly creamy with dark plush fruit, cayman spice and pepper, the finish is slightly warm yet alluring.
