Great example of a DOCG Chianti Classico. Priced just right. Flavors of ripe red fruits, milk chocolate and berries. Good value for the money and easy to enjoy with pasta or by itself.

Opened for Nick's 25th. Still drinking beautifully! Perfectly balanced, nice chocolate on the mid-palate with dark fruit on the front and a nice dark cherry late finish. Arguably at its peak.

Two mags drunk with consistent results: softly effervescent, rounded and drinkable without being too sweet, a feeling of understated class. Felt slightly more mealy and mature than a mag at Christmas had done, but there's ages to go on this showing.

100% CabSauv. Dark red/purple. Tobacco, leather and fruit in the nose. Harmonious and elegant. Nice finish, but tannins still somewhat harsh. Still young, this will improve over the next decade.

Most enjoyable but definitely heading for the cliff of enjoyment so anyone keeping back a memory of Martin Meinert’s skill as a winemaker beware. Great memories of his mastery of the grapes of Bordeaux

Classic Portuguese still red. Nose of dark fruit and tar. Deep red/purple color. Balanced, rustic flavors with softening tannin. Full mouthfeel and medium long finish. House is known more for tawny port, but a solid effort here.

Robe prune légèrement trouble. Vin naturel avec un manque équilibre. Aromes de poivre et fruit rouge. Manque de maturité dans le fruit. Ce n’est pas un vin digeste, bon pour accompagner un repas. Pas mon type de beaujolais.

Impressive ripeness of fruit here, a juicy jammy Eden Shiraz with a nice little bit of age has it sitting in a good window. Black cherry, black raspberry and blackberries come in strong concentration. Touch of wood spice but whatever oak was used seems either old or very well integrated by this point. The fruit has soaked it up. Cloves & star anise too. Not overly complex but a tasty fruit bomb.

My last of these. Took quite a while to open up via decanting. Feels overpriced for what it is. I prefer others from Washington State.

{One of 3 botles purchased in the last year. Advised by retailer to decant despite being a 2017}. To start: GREAT nose to start, dark brooding rich fruit, initial palate somewhat reserved, bitter cherries, medium-to-full presence, stones, Gevry earthiness. Others have noted 'grainy tannins' which are there. 40 minutes in: Great nose, fantastic palate attack. 75 minutes and 2 hours later: tannins less prominent, super fruit more forward, my notes read "outrageously good" and "gorgeous fruit, mouth feel, and length" and "fantastic palate. Complete, filling, rich, long."

I guess I liked this wine. 94 with upside potential after 2+ hours of air.

- smells like plum and a dark note in there like leather or tobacco
- light body feel in the mouth and doesn't carry too long
- on the nose immediately get a hit of red fruit, cherry I think
- opens up a bit more and still light and a little dry
- flavor carries a little longer with the leather note

Excellent
Glad I waited on this second of two bottles, having given it an '87' (Very Good) back in late-2019, writing "I've got another bottle and I'll have to set it aside for a couple years when I'll be able to say whether I regret not having bought more or not." Well, I don't regret not buying more, because the cellar is overflowing, but I am happy I waited. This is in a nice spot now.

Opens savory and with a thread of smoke. Dark fruits underpin, but play a supporting role to the savory character. Some baked earth and roasted meats come in.

Solid buy 4+ years ago at $26 USD.

(Drank May 2024)

My first taste of this beauty, fresh out of the box! I spent time in Galicia (the region where this grape originates), and I must say that it tastes like home.

Beautiful citrus aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, honeydew melon, hints of green apple, apricot, and mint. A lovely touch of salt on the back end that extends these gorgeous flavors out.

I’m excited to see how this wine develops over the next 2-3 years!

Need 3 hrs to open up with sufficient headroom in the bottle or a slim decanter.

Remains primary notes + much development makes this bottle a quite layered and perfumed one. It’s accurately made and typical lifted Pinot. Drink now, probably prime.

Peach, apricot and vanilla notes prominent. Had a bit of a Chardonnay base feel to it, but still remained light and refreshing. Although I tend to like a bit more minerality in my SBs, I thought this was very good. Was excellent with the fish tacos the Mrs. served up for dinner.

The wine looks yellow colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like grapefruit, lemon and pineapple. It tastes like grapefruit, lemon, pineapple and lychee. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity.

Curiosity got the best of me, and the first thing I will say is do not let it get the best of you. This wine needs a lot of time. It has the depth to handle several years of aging, so no worries about putting it aside for a while. That said the wine is compelling, even given its current colicky infant stage of life. Fruit is darker than in most of the Goodfellow Pinots I have tried, though it should be noted that most of those have not been Eola-Amity AVA wines. What is striking is the tannin profile, which skews more towards a stern Burgundy (e.g., Pommard or a tight Gevrey). I like that as I prefer some tannic structure in Pinot Noir, so long as it has the stuffing to age, which this wine does. I'll defer opening any more of this for at least 5-7 years, maybe longer if I can exercise any of my limited patience.

Auction purchase. Out of magnum. Lower neck fill and cork in decent condition. Clearly old Bordeaux on the nose and palate, but tired and over the hill. May have been slightly madeirized as well.

Garnet color and smooth across the tongue. Dark berry fruit was muted. Things improved as it finished with a long earthy and forest floor parade across the palate. Good balance of tannin and acid.

Vanilla, pecan nuts, lemon and honeysuckle aromas, then an arresting attack of white peach, lemon and honey, a slightly creamy middle section, but brought back into line by a pure, crisp, citrussy finish that goes on forever. Still a little oaky, but this adds rather than detracts to the taste - quite rich but dry at the same time - my daughter said it was a little like a dry Sauternes could be, but for me it reminded me more of a Meursault. Absolutely delicious and I'm sorry it's my last.

Purchased at €6.05 with a general 40% discount from €10.09 from a Maxima supermarket in Rīga, fundamentally, as an ingredient for osso buco, but also to taste. What caught my eye were the facts that it was chateau-bottled with an alcohol level of 12.5%, had been awarded a gold in 2021 at the Lyon Concours International and that the estate was owned privately by Messrs. Latorse. Sure the back label mentioned merlot ahead of cabernet sauvignon, but it got me wondering whether this was classic claret. The property is not small, almost 93ha, in the Entre-Deux-Mers area, which is better known for its white wines.

It has a deep and dark red/crimson core with a broad medium ruby fringe. Broadly speaking, it has an unoaked regional nose, but one which is dominated by dull, high-cropped merlot. The light and weedy mouth lacked ripeness, concentration and any interest, over the 3 hours I kept looking at it. Sure, it is not as vile as the La Chasse CdR had not long ago, but this is anemic. Though the osso buco was very nice, this wine was poor and couldn't be served alongside the meal.

I think it’s very good for what it is, secondary market prices aside obviously. Rather modern and fashionable nose of lemon curd, almond and white flowers. Bouquet is soaring 30min in. The palate is reductive, fruit though is restrained and focused. 4 hours later loses some of that focus in place of more breadth. Oily texture. Enjoyable, but not mind blowing.
