Ripe plums and redcurrant, fresh herbs, savoury oak and sweet licorice on the nose. Palate is rich and plush with acidity underneath the core medium-bodied structure. Good length. Linear and fruity towards the end of the palate. Finish is somewhat chalky but long. Good to drink now and for the next 5 years.

Big tasty Amarone but doesn’t hold a candle to the one I had earlier in the week. This was closer to the Amarone I know, with more of a cooked fruit and prunes, spices, cherry cough syrup and big alcohol. I really enjoyed it but could only drink a glass or two of this and only once in a rate while

Medium ruby.
Very aromatic and intense flowery nose, with coffee beans, blackberries, dried meat aromas.
Medium body, soft and silky tannins, bit of oak and coffee beans flavours coat intense and savoury blackberry and meaty flavours. could do with bit more acidity, but it’s already quite nice as it is.
Very very long enjoyable finish.
Excellent wine reminiscent of an excellent aged cote rotie.

A refined and concentrated nose of ripe black fruits, toasted spices, sweet licorice and savoury dried meat. Palate echoed the nose. The plush and savoury fruits persisted in the mouth. Good structure and density, but it is medium-bodied on a bed of ripe tannins. Transition still needs time for the phenolics to harmonise and smoothen. This needs time, at least 3 more years for the drinking window to open. Finish is grippy and mouth coating with vibrant traits of fruit and spices. There has been a change of wine making style for this compared to the past. 91-92 pts.

This was a bit closed. Some dark fruit and a wall of tannins, but we only had time for a brief decant. Nice potential but young.

This was a pirate wine the host graciously opened to pair against a 2000 Lafleur Petrus, both served blind. None of the heat of the vintage and some exotic notes on the nose, just a classic Comtesse. 93-94

Gravel nose. Menthol. Red fruit. Very nice just outshone by the ‘86 Mouton paired against it. I looked in my notes from when I last drank this wine 13 years ago and seems much more evolved. Drink up. 93-94

Sadly not much fruit left in this bottle. Raisin and some butterscotch was all I could get from the nose. The palate reflected the nose and left the woody tannins naked and bare.

This was my and nearly everyone’s WOTN. Stunning nose of blood, cedar and Asian spice box. Still some fruit on the palate with leather and earthy tones. Not especially powerful just harmonious and so smooth. Did close up some. 96-97

This was the weakest wine of the whole tasting but wasn’t a bad drink. Minty, earthy nose. Not much fruit but some blackberry. Menthol finish which was slightly bretty but still interesting. More menthol over time. 91-92

Compared to the second wine Demoiselles, the Grand Vin is more reserve, less fruit forward but more refine and complex. Initial impression of subtle oak, with some breathing, the fresh ripe red and blue fruits emerged with a layer of minerality and energy. Medium-bodied, nice concentration but not in your face. Transition to a lingering finish is smooth and extended for such a young vintage. Drink with an hour of decanting for the elements to settle. Will continue to develop for the next 5-8 years.

Glides across the tongue like it hasn’t even touched and disappears in to forever. I’d say delivers a silky smooth kiss on the way through but it’s almost a whisper, barely felt. Rose, strawberry, cranberry jelly, forest undergrowth. Biscuit and spice and fine feathery light tannin. Tremendous length. Promise of complexity but tightly coiled still, at this stage more about purity, shape, and length. Can see 96 in this, though I won’t go there tonight.

Not showing as well as previously—in fact, showing some of the green bell pepper another recent taster noted, though (happily) not overwhelmingly so. Today, this seems tannic and a little backward; not showing the charm of earlier bottles. Brings to mind Parker’s old observation that a tasting note does no more than capture a long distance runner at a single moment in time among many in a long, long evolution. This bottle, today: 5-11-16-8: 90/100.

Chambolle Musigny Les Charmes Vertical: The biggest wine this afternoon. Blackcurrant, licorice, and vanilla. Sense of soil and deep in the palate. With all that add-on, this still retains the charming side of Chambolle as its core. This would last for at least a few more decades.

Final of 2 bottles of this wine, I last drank a bottle about 3.5 yrs prior.
Matured nicely, a very good PN that is not overly ripened or too extracted.
I much prefer these cooler climate Pinot's if my choices are Calif PN.
No formal TN here. Drink through 2025 or so.

Colour: Dark crimson, some slight bricking appearing at the edge
Nose: Plum, cassis, brambles, leather
Palette: Plum, black current, strawberry, raspberry, white pepper. some meaty notes, longish creamy finish from the tannin, but still has a bit of acid to carry if forward as well.

Very nice, interesting wine.

Quite fruity, so I reckon it still has years ahead of it.

Its there but its not, and we wonder ( albeit we argue for the Gran Reservas to be drunk with a lot of age and we love these days the 1970s albeit one needs to have access to top cellars like Rekondo to guarantee that they are alive) whether the Reservas of today need to be had younger-ish. This felt a bit barn-ish and lacking elegance. An ok 89-90 max. def worse than a year ago but couls well be the bottle.

This vintage has touch more fruit, body and acidity compared to the 2018. Red and blue fruits, very vibrant and clean aromatics. Good length on the medium-bodied structure with supportive tannins surrounding the elements. Overall the balance is there. Finish is firm yet not aggressive. Need a bit more time for the tannins to fully integrated.

From magnum. Somewhat disappointing for such a vaunted wine. The fruit here is a mix of red and black with darker notes to the fore. Moderate structure nicely balances the fruit. Moderate weight, quite elegant, lacking the weight and intensity one would expect. moderate length, relatively straightforward. Drinking now and will last for another decade or two.

Truly glorious brunello from a magnum. Good weight of ethereal red fruits really lifted and perfumed. There are, of course, some leather notes but this is still predominantly fruit driven. Great balance here, the tannin have softened but the acidity and tannin are providing great grip and lift. Very long with plenty of complexity. Drinking perfectly now and will endure for another decade or more.

Absolutely stunning. Drinking amazingly well despite it's youth. This has a wonderful depth and intensity of mulberry and damson fruits in perfect balance with a great structure of super fine tannins and moderate acidity. Very long, relatively straightforward at this stage. This really should be given 20 years to mature and evolve complexity and is likely to go through an period in which it does not show well - but right now it is singing!
