Last tasted 2 1/2 years ago. Still really like this as it shows good fruit with lychee, peach, white flowers and grapefruit with a steely mineral backbone. The mineral component comes more into focus as the temperature comes up.

Last of 3 and they've all been enjoyable.

For a Cabernet Sauvignon around $20 this is a good wine. But you have to decant at least three hours before drinking. Took it to a blind tasting and everyone liked it. After decanting the body was full, slightly tannic and almost everyone went with a California Bordeaux blend. I’ll be picking more of this up.

Initial buzz dissipated quickly, and we were left with a classic rosé, but Italian earth. Went really well with the food at Xocome Antojeria

I am not sure if it was a bit more age or perhaps the setting or this particular bottle but the last of these in my cellar was by far the best. Ripe concentrated fruit as mentioned before but now it sits perfectly with the oak and acid which has integrated well. It is a very big wine that has finally become what, I expect, the maker intended (J. Maltus).

Wow! What a shock! This was the outstanding offering after a Nota Bene and a Le Vieux Pin Syrah violet.
Tastes of deli meats and smoke. Wonderfully balanced. high intensity. Makes me wish it was the first of the night rather than the third.

Succulent, medium funky orange. Good acidity, juicy, burst of fruit. Nose: orange, barnyard. Taste: Orange, orange zest, hard cheese, shiitake mushroom. Simultaneously complex and deliciously simple drinking. Nice wine.

Soft, round black cherry fruit. Lacked depth and richness. Somewhat disappointing given that it was Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year.

Three hour double decant. Locked down. Almost completely, nice texture and mouthfeel but neither the nose nor the palate give anything more than ‘this is red wine’ . . . add this to the list of recalcitrant 2018s. I still think this has promise, will hold other bottles 3-5 yrs and try again.

Slight yellow with citrus and pine aromas. A bit of citrus and minerality on the bud. A nice everyday kind of wine to drink.

1 hour decant, 60 F. Rich garnet color. Lovely nose of bacon fat, black cherry and a bit of granite. Well integrated oak and tannins. Fading acidity. Alcohol is also well-integrated, but still packs a punch. Medium body. Strawberry, black licorice, tart blackberry and white pepper on the palate. Medium length finish. Still has some time left.
Red
Smoky smoldering concentrated ripe and dried mostly-savory slightly-"sweet" ripe boysenberry, black plum, clove, cigar box, dark chocolate, earthy vanilla, and light woody herb. Deep ruby color with slight magenta rim. Outstanding. QPR is maybe a touch low. Probably just needs a little air to reveal even more complexity.

Browning was present during the pour. Soft aromas of cherry and light cranberry. Missing big earthy florals. Tastes velvety and slight spice. Missing fruit finish. Probably past it's peak.

This was opened alongside a Gonet that I did not get a picture of the bottle. Tart yellow fruit, very vibrant, minimal dosage from what I can gather. Very zippy champagne and a 2014 Millessime on top of that. Looks like it was disgorged October 2020. Excellent fruit and still rather youthful. White peach and honeysuckle backbone. Great bubbles. Has a lot of life left in it without a doubt. This was served a little closer to room temp and I think it added to the experience honestly (I would usually recommend colder). Well done.

Decanted and served at 55F. Medium translucent crimson. Floral nose. Ripe stewed cherries, tea leaf and soy. Lean dry astringent finish and medium+ tannins. Very enjoyable. Took to a weekly blind tasting and others guessed it was a Mendoza Malbec, Crozes-Hermitage Syrah, Chilean Carménère and a Central Coast Cab Franc. One participant flirted with calling Zin but ultimately called Malbec.

Cherry, strawberry and floral on the nose. Medium in body and acidity. Well structure. Tannins are subtle. Very well balanced. Long cherry finish. First bottle from Hirsch and looking forward to trying the other vineyards.

This has improved well since I last tasted it in 2022. Oak is totally integrated and this has picked up a bit more body. Lots of grapefruit, lemon curd, citrus blossoms, a bit of vanilla and mint that are all rounded out with candle wax and a stony minerality. Not sure how long this would improve for but it’s in a great spot now.

A good enough glass of Pinot Noir but underwhelming for the vintage and vineyard. Black fruit, lacking spice with good enough weight, hardly recognizable as Volnay.

A rare find at a favorite store. $27!

Color. Garnet red. No brick bleeding into the edge. Very fine.

Nose. Cedar, boiled cherries, sage, pencil lead, rhubarb. Very elegant.

Palate. Very rich given the age. Sweet cherries and strawberry syrup. Crisp acidity. Tannins are nearly nonexistent. Balanced to a point. Almost too much residual sugar.

At 17 years of age it's phenomenal for a new age Tempranillo. I like it!
White
Clear, pale, yellow. Lemon, grapefruit, green apple, chalk/minerals on the nose. Dry, medium + acidity, medium alcohol, green apple, lemon and grapefruit on the palate with some minerality. Medium finish.

Nice tangy, leaner style (which I enjoy) Syrah. Simple Syrah flavors. 14.2° alcohol but tastes like it would be 12.8°. Somewhat Short, clipped finish.

A great pouilly showing just what you’d want and expect. Gooseberry, herbal, chives and maybe even asparagus (or is it the pairing w asparagus). Flinty, hints of smoke. Palate intensely acidic, mineral on long finish and tart gooseberry and rhubarb throughout. Some floral hints?

Dark ruby in the glass. Nose is not terribly expressive, giving out some cherries and oak. Medium+ acidity, fruit-forward but balanced with bright cherries and black currants, with notes of coffee, plush and unobtrusive tannins, and a long ending with warm spice and oak.
Very approachable already, this is a well-made wine and classic Napa in style.

Glassware: Grassl Cru
Prep: Pop n' pour, followed over a couple days

Chalky reduction, lime peel, and pear on the nose. Medium-bodied and concentrated, with gripping minerality and crisp acids that lingers over a long finish. I really love the intensity of the layers of chalky minerals, green apple/orchard fruit, and citrus tones in this wine. Great effort from Vincent!

Nose of strawberry, grapefruit. Fresh and bright, a nice balance of light sweetness and acid with a dry finish. A wonderful expression of Rosé

Smoldering camp fire, raspberry, blueberry, and fresh oregano. Medium body that could benefit from a little more intensity and concentration. High acid is integrated well. Medium powdery tannin. Medium ruby color, just beginning to hint at garnet at the rim. M+ finish. Very good.

As a release slightly above their more generic entry, to me this is either too young or maybe a little too much oak. Very dark purple for a Pinot. The wood and cherry nose also shows the alcohol. Perfect viscosity. Very mild. Except for the oak totally balanced. Soft and correct minor tannins. Lingering oak and vanilla finish. Wish we had the chance to decant.

My first Cab Franc. Medium to high acidity and medium body. Needs to breathe for 30 mins before it opens up and the tannins become softer. Nose is leather, peppers and black fruits. Taste has earthiness, oak and peppery notes along with black ripe fruits.. Deep violet colour
White
Lightly effervescent citrus, fresh apple and a lovely minerality.

Tasted blind. Over ripe dark plums, over ripe blueberries, wild game fat, cedar, tobacco, old leather and star anise on the nose. The fruits have a bit of a preserved/jammy quality Medium + intensity of aromas. Fruit forward on the palate, which adds flavors of raspberry pie and strawberry jam. Medium + intensity of aromas. Feels like it's from a warm climate; thoughit doesn't get too flabby.

Medium + body with medium + acid and medium tannins. Drink now, doens't feel like this is going to benefit from any further aging.

Call - 3-5 year old Côtes du Rhône. I felt great nailing this blind.

Produced from a non typical Pinot growing region, this is kind of like Pinot in the raw. Fermented and aged in stainless. Designed to drink young as there are no added sulphites. Quite tannic and rustic. Sharp cherry and raspberry fruity entry with crushed herbs. Not typical as there is little aeration or aging. They just want to showcase the fruit. Lingering sandalwood and shale. Needs food. Still has that lovely Pinot softness across the palate.

Incredible denseness and mouthcoating tannins, this wine kills it. Muddled blueberry, macerated huckleberry, charcoal, grilled fennel, double dose of licorice and white pepper. Depth, class, hedonism in a 98-point wrapper.
