Although this is Godello from Bierzo, this was meant to be a fun counter example to Sketch which is arguably a bit unique when it comes to Raul Pérez’s typical style. The 2020 “La Claudina” pours a deeper straw color with notes of lemons, grapefruit, Brazil nuts, hazel nuts (yeah, it’s definitely more in the oxidative style) and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and saline with a slightly sherried, creamy texture. Charming stuff and definitely something I would like to track over time. Enjoy now through 2035. Thanks Matt!

Robe encore opaque.Bouquet très typé de fumé (lard),floral(violette),des épices (poivre),de l'olive noire également donc une superbe complexité mais qui manque d'intensité....Par contre,la bouche est déjà d'un très haut niveau:c'est succulent,sexy,très digeste...Vraiment une caresse dans le gosier et une belle longueur finale.Une sacrée bouteille dans un millésime pourtant pas coté....Donnez-lui encore 3-5 ans et le bouquet va s'intensifier méchamment et la cotation globale finale sera clairement plus haute de 3-4 points également.....

Opened at about 2PM and we got into it at about 7:30. The nose is dominated by violet pastilles - reminds me perfectly of those little French hard candies that come in a cute tin. The thing is, this note dominates and overshadows anything else that might be present, and that is probably because there is also a high amount of volatile acidity. On day two the wine has not improved, and has perhaps devolved, with the tannins a bit raspy on the finish. Drinking this next to the 10 Baudry Croix Boissee was helpful in understanding the fundamental problems with this wine, which in the end is marred by VA, not entirely in balance, and rendered uni-dimensional anyway. Disappointing, to say the least. I hope it's a bottle problem, not a wine problem, although that seems unlikely.

En la etiqueta se indica el clon de Moscatel empleado (Gos). Amarillo con algún destello dorado. Nariz intensa, atractiva en la que se ha conseguido domar en buena medida la voluptuosidad de la moscatel de Alejandría, pese ellos el vino tiene matices de flor blanca y uva golosa, pero siempre en un segundo plano, con notas más suaves de corteza de naranja, de hierbas aromáticas y de melón en sazón. En boca tiene buen ataque, hay sensación de materia, cierto cuerpo, es seco, con notable frescura, buenos amargos y gran persistencia. Excelente expresión de la variedad.

Amazing bottle.
Bought "en primeurs" together with Tertre Rotebouef, of which it is in fact the second wine.
The 2009 was a great vintage of Bordeaux, and this wine confirm it. From Merlot grapes and a minor part of Cabernet Sauvignon.
In the glass an impenetrable ruby red, eucalyptus, blackberries, cherries, tobacco, mint and chocolate. In the mouth a black cherry jam, tannins perfectly integrated in a beautiful minerality. Mulberry sensation refreshes a very long finish.
A wine that has just entered its apogee, to be drunk again in the coming years.

Basic cheap wine, very neutral and mild taste but fresh without a bitter aftertaste. Suitable for all meat dishes and as a companion drink.

Was delighted by the softened tannins and smoothed edges. Lots of sweet merlot and a bit of edge from the cabernet franc. Served after 1hr decant with roast chicken and New potatoes. Altogether a lovely combination. Can't get too much better!
