Tasted this wine at the Wines of Germany: German Wine - The Basics Guided Tasting at Prowine Singapore 2024.

Funcky red in colour. On the nose, the berries and dark cherries stood out. Smooth tannins, with spicy notes, and a long finish.

Drinking this wine gives the sensation of walking up a flight of steps.

A nice Riesling, even if it ends a bit thick. Erich‘s characteristic freshness suits a Riesling - which lends itself to purity and frugality alike - less than some of this other offerings such as his excellent viognier, räuschling, Sauvignon blanc and Chardonnay.. and Kirche on the red side.

Jordbær, bringebær på aroma. Medium intens. Høy syre, medium- body, lite tanniner. Jordbær og rød frukt på smak med medium + intensitet. Medium+ finish. Digg og fruktig.

Pretty much in line with my last bottle, a good wine but not showing as well as previous experiences. Good, but not special. 92+ Points.

Yet another very fine performance. All the typicity of high end SB - minerality, earthy shades, fanning out to orange blossom and closes with very smart but not over the top acidity.

Tasted this wine at the Wines of Germany: Spatburgunder - Red Star Guided Tasting at Prowine Singapore 2024.

Peckish red in colour. On the nose there are vibrant strawberries, coupled with spicy notes and seamless tannins. Complex texture, good length in finish with refreshing acidity.

On the palate it is also dull and dumb.

Excellent showing for a village wine. Harmonious, warm earth tones, Fourrier-lite silk on the palate. Even casual Burgundy fans will like it. No fireworks, but it has more complexity than your typical village. Two hearts.

Medium ruby color, with a touch of brick around the edge. Cherry and rhubarb fruit that was quite tart on opening. The sharpness mellowed out after a few minutes, but secondary flavors never really developed. Pleasant, but one note.

Dark pu-er in colour. Has a penicillin nose upon presentation. On the palate, the wine presents lush, ripen fruits, with a rounded and smooth finish. There are 3 distinctive characteristics about this wine: it has a dense body, with a burst of sweetness and ends with a saltiness.

TC’s Production Notes:

The 2021 vintage came after a chilly, relatively dry winter, the exception being a single storm that dropped more than a foot of rain on us in late January. The cold, dry winter produced a fruit set with smaller clusters and smaller berries, and yields were down about 25% compared to our average. The growing season was ideal, with each hot stretch followed by a cool period that allowed the vines to recover, and that combined with the low yields to produce some of our most intense fruit ever and our highest average acids since the chilly 2011 vintage. We believe that 2021 has all the hallmarks of a blockbuster year.
As always, the Esprit is based on the red fruit and meatiness of Mourvedre (35%). The relatively equal proportions of Grenache (26%, for sweet spice and bright acids) and Syrah (23%, for dark color and savory, tannic richness) are a good indicator of the vintage's overall balance and quality. This also seeméd to be a great vintage to lean into three of our more trace varieties, and we used all our Vaccarese (7%, for black fruit and minerality) and Cinsaut (5%, for warm purple fruit and sweet spice) as well as 4% Counoise for vibrancy and wildness. This blend produced something both intense and fresh, complex and yet pure. The wine's components were selected for Esprit, blended in June 2022 and aged a year in foudre before bottling in August 2023.
2950 cases produced.

Rust brown in colour. Captivating aroma with dried preserved cured meat notes. A salt attack followed by hints of sweetness and acidity. Rich and full body with macadamia-like nutty fragrance.

Für 5,50 € am 02. November 2023 vom Wineterminator erworben. Schien mir gerade am ersten Tag entweder zu warm gelagert oder zwei Jahre zu spät getrunken. War am ende dann trinkbar nicht gut sondern eher mäßig.

Very elevated VA on this bottle, well beyond my tolerance threshold. Maybe this was better in its youth, but the fruit has probably receded and this point and this is undrinkable. Maybe the other bottle will show better.

Deep gold in colour with a whiff of light tea on the nose. Delivers pleasure and a punch on the nose. Hints of hazelnut, menthol leaf.

An astute wine.

Incredible polish and poise here, with a linear profile that is just starting to give in the fruit department. This presents as a fairly serious wine, and one that will need more than a handful of years to fully come together. That said, the quality is undeniable, and likely one of my top favorites from the Left Bank (I’m usually more a Right Bank fella most of the time). It is fresh and a little haunting at the same time. An array of black, purple, and red fruit form a primary skirmish line in front of a significant wall of mineral and spice notes. Finishes with crazy exactitude.

The 2015 Latour strikes a lovely balance between old world strictness and new world expansion. Though this bottle plays coy with its fruit, it isn’t shy about letting you know instantly how well put together it is. I’m not the brightest bulb, so it’s not always great when a wine can outsmart you. But in this case, I’ll settle for letting the Latour beat me on the LSAT for now. A special thanks to good friend and CT’r Cristal2000 for carting this along on his trip to share. Truly top shelf stuff. Hold for another 5+ years minimum (10+ ideally).

Straw gold in colour with fleeting aromas. Dry with a sharp finish. Dried almonds were evident with a slightly salty, flinty midpalate. Ample acidity to match the alcohol.

This wine should match very well with seafood with a rich creamy sauce.

An eye opening and riveting wine.

A collaboration of one of my favourite Austrian producers Roland Velich and his winery Moric with Volcanic soil producer Gergo Filep who produced a single varietal of Furmint, matured partially in steel and in used Hungarian large oak barrels. Pale straw colour. Medium intensity of quince, peaches, lemons, grapefruits, hints of seashells. Medium body, fruity and fresh, quite straightforward with medium+ zesty acidity and citrusy finish.

Shows true Chablis typicaty with chalk/stone aromas alongside green apple, citrus, touch of leesy yeast. Nice acid profile, good carry and good finish. Day 2 the fruit became riper and had a touch of tropical/melon. Overall a good Chablis that I'm happy to drink but there is better for your money out there.

Very nice wine. Cherry, nice fruit with sweet undertones, well balanced by earthy aromas, smooth tannins and some wood. Really good length. Well balanced acidity.
Pleasure to drink now, but would drink up soon. once fruit starts to fade then wine will become imbalanced despite good tannins and acidity.

What I said in '22. But, with age it probably needs drinking in one sitting. I mention that since I often don't finish a bottle and use a Vac U Vin when I don't.

My note from last year applies in terms of this wine’s specific characteristics and flavor profile, though I will say the performance this time around was absolutely beautiful on day one (a healthy Coravin pull). It was next to a 2015 Colgin Tychson, which was less elegant and more angular initially - though the 2015 after a ton of air really transformed into a phenom. This 2016 was less overtly gushing than when I had it last year (in a blind of other top Napa 2016s).

The 2016 had a poise that aptly counterbalanced the waves of dark fruit, chocolate, and black soil flavors. Two days later it was put in a lineup of 2019 Napa uppercrusters and still showed well. I did prefer it on day one when I had more opportunity to appreciate its nuances. I think this is a very fine wine that is also very generous in its fruit flavor expansion. It has a brooding sense about it and also a freshness that is compelling. High class yummy type wine. Drink with some air or hold for another 5-7++ years.

Muted nose initially, opened quickly in glass, developed deep ruby color - velvety resolved tannins, as Tim H noted still no sign of tertiary notes - loads of fruit remaining - endless finish - good bit of sludge sediment - peak window but i will hold my remaining 2 bottles as it is a special wine holding strong and i think can still improve - 94+

Purchased at Maison Chapoutier in Tain-l'Hermitage. At the time, it was only available in France and a few other countries (not the U.S.). Still kicking after almost a decade but I wouldn't hold on to it much longer. Lovely gold hue, delicate aromas of flowers and honey, though a not very persistent finish.

A collaboration of one of my favourite Austrian producers Roland Velich and his winery Moric with Volcanic soil producer Villa Tolnay located on the shore of lake Balaton. A new blend for my palate of Riesling and Furmint, matured separately on the lees in large oak barrels for over a year before blending. Light straw colour. Medium+ intensity aroma of apples, pears, peaches, jasmine, mineral flinty notes, lemon hints. Medium body, fresh and juicy, touch of fruity sweetness is in sync with salty minerality.

Wine #20 in our weekly Washington Wine Wednesday series. Nose - violets, vegetal, dark cherries, black pepper. As always a two hour decant. First glass is overpowering with tannins. The tannins hide what appears to be some nice fruit behind it. Second glass opened up to be fruity, earthy and pretty tasty. Purchased to offset a tasting fee. Would do the same again - but likely would not purchase this outright.

Fresh nose, herbal red berry and crawberry fruit. Fullbodied, with fresh acidity and plenty of well extracted tannins, but also some heat that reminds me of amarena sotto spirito and detracts from the overall impression. Leathery finish, with herbal accents. Interesting. Drink 2027 - 2032.

After tasting the 2006 Dujac Clos St Denis in 750 the night before in NYC, I decided to open a magnum of Ponsot's Clos St Denis. Both wines were in almost an identical place which is at their apex and absolutely beautiful. Wonderful CSD nose and mid-weight beauty that is amazingly open for being a Grand Cru in magnum format. Really beautiful in every facet and wonderful to share with special friends. A great representation of a great producer and terroir!

Average 50 year old vines from multiple vineyards with two types of soil: limestone and rocky marl. Native yeast fermentation and aging in 500 liter barrels with only 10% new. 15 months on lees without battonage. Lightly filtered before bottling. Shy nose at first, Nose with mineral, oak spice and touch of floral. Quite pretty palate. Good acid. Honey. Apple. Medium body. Some oak spice. Lots of savory minerality. More fruit with time. It becomes more expansive as it was tight and concentrated at first.
