A monster, at 16 years, even two days after opening. Massive amounts of toasty oak and black fruit. There might be some complexity underneath but it’s mostly obscured. Not my style and I shudder to think what it tasted like on release. Blind tarred against a 2018 Hundred Ark vineyard, people though this was the younger wine!

Same bottle as Nutty08, served double blind to me next to the 2021. I picked up camphor, like synthetic mosquito spray. It was dominant and left a bitter aftertaste. Not knowing the wine, I thought it might have been a flawed sample or a soapy glass or something, but the 21 was quite lovely next to it.

Screw cap. Lovely, fragrant, medium-high intensity nose of petrol, lemon oil citrus, waxy, white peach, and orchard fruit complexity. It's miedium+ bodied, off-dry and with delicious petrol, lemon/lime citrus, white peach, and green apple flavours with a kiss of sweetness surrounding a core of savoury, stony mineral. It has very good, lively and juicy acidity, along with a nicely chalky textured mid-palate. Leesy, limestone mineral notes linger on the long, dry-ish, crisp, and well-structured finish. Should continue to drink well over the next 3-4 years, and probably longer. Score: 90+ pts

Tasted blind alongside the 2020. This was from .375. Polished, plush, agree with the dill influence noted below which sometimes comes across as minty. High Merlot influence appreciable. It was quite nice, and thankfully unlike its counterpart, not flawed.

This really hit the spot tonight. Maybe a touch sweet but so good… grapey in a way but singing… ordered more. Better than the 2013

Solid Village wine. Cork was rank, but the wine was good. Its not going to blow you away, but it was a solid mature village burgundy. Tart red fruits that got a bit sweeter as it was open, light earthiness, some minty notes, but it was a touch astringent. Light/medium body. Certainly a food wine at this point, but no rush as I think a good bottle will hold for a while.

Very nice unusual white. Strong herbal flavors. Very clean pleasant nose similar to savignon blanc, and flovors are stronger and interesting.

Amazing. I’m the window now. PNP but opened up nicely after an hour in the glass. Reminded me of a lighter old world Pinot. Great QPR from Sean Capiaux (O’Shaugnessy winemaker).

I think WindFlyer nailed the nose. I'm drinking this over a couple days and wow, does it hold on. I'll let the rest sit for a year or so, but I think this could easily go 10 years. The complexity has really picked up. Some of the early nonfruit salinity has given way to a fresh lemon profile.

At first opening, not a lot and sharply acidic.
2-3 hours later with some food (salami and then some steak) it comes to life and starts to make sense. Food oriented and assertive with rich fatty meats. Integrated tannins and tart cherry & red fruit.
No idea how this garnered 95 points (WE Dec. 2022) but well made and decidedly old fashioned in a good way. very happy to have on a Sunday night with grilled red meat. Giving me old school Brunello vibes and maybe even hints of some of my father’s 70s Bordeaux. This was never intended to drink on its own. I wouldn’t wait on this. I’d say it’s close to or past its peak, and absolutely not something to drink without something grilled. Food required.

Wow, maybe it should be higher? Double decanted for impromptu wine gathering with members of a regular group. No formal notes but it had a great nose of fruit spice and some background structure notes. Dark color with no significant bricking at the edge. Savery fruit with some spice box and fading structure notes on the pallet. Everyone loved it and would say that this bottle could go another 3 - 5 years. As good as a Beaucastel CdP as I've had.

On the nose, violets & dark fruit. On the palate, cranberries with sour plum & spices. The tannins have a light to medium intensity. Would be a great holiday wine; cheers!🍷

This is a bold red "berry-forward" blend of 56% tempranillo, 30% syrah, 7% mourvedre, and 7% grenache. This could pair with steaks, BBQ ribs or wild red meats like elk, venison, etc. It's coming in at 15%+ ABV, but you wouldn't know it. On the nose is definitely Tempranillo and the palate picks up the Syrah and Mourvèdre. It deserves a decant of about an hour to tame down the "grapey" taste, then the spice and white pepper shows through with a mild acidity. Shame I only bought 4. Cheers!

Muted at first. Needs 1 hour to open up. Nose: blackberries, wood, greenery, violets, thin. Palate: plum, blackberry, forest floor, touch of cotton candy. Medium body, balanced, easy to drink, tertiary flavors more predominant.

Pretty lifted fruit is the focus, a little balsam, dried mushrooms and roses too... fresh and fruity on the palate, very easy tannins, full but not a rich and thick style... finish is salty and fruity, spicy and woodsy, a little floral and herbal, fine tannins grip more here. This is probably best over the next few years, but it will also probably be fine, if quite tertiary, in 10...

This is fairly generic FLX Pinot. In a certain sense, that’s definitely a compliment. Fresh, lively cherry and berry fruit, good lift and zip, a certain character to the structure. On the other hand, lacks some depth and “seriousness” to it that I think lends to age-worthiness and structure. I’m sure it could run to maybe 10 in the “surprisingly pretty for its age” category, but drink much sooner for maximum enjoyment.

Unique blend of 50% Grecanico, 30% Chard, 10% Viognier, 10% Fiano from the Menfi region of Sicily (this at 500m and constant sea breeze), one of the key white wine regions.
The austerity of grecanico is catalyzed by the rounded body of the Chardonay and nose of Viognier. This is where local + int’l grapes actually work. Simple but fun way to start off the evening.

Pale lemon green in glass. Medium one of lychee and tropical fruits. Palate med+ acidity with an effervescence - not sure from stainless tanks or the acidity. Drink now.

Opened four hours prior to consumption. This was a purchase as part of my goal of tasting all the wines from the 1855 Bordeaux classification. This wine was a perfect example from Margaux but not in the way you might think. It was a perfect example of why the 1855 classification is a historical frame of reference that is more academic than relevant for today’s Bordeaux wine lovers.

On opening this wine was a stinker (and still stinky past the four hour mark) - more representative of something from Crozes-Hermitage had the bottle not been in front of me. On the palate this lacks the elegance expected from Margaux. Flabby acidity with course tannin that leaves the wine unbalanced and lacking the freshness expected from the region and vintage. Very little in the way of flavor profile beyond a simple (and brief) blackberry note with some dried herbs in the mid palate before turning pasty near the brief finish.

Happy to check this wine off the 1855 classification. However, considering the vintage, it will never reappear on the purchase list. Avoid unless you want to check the box on the 1855 classification.

for a 2014, I would expect more. a bit "grapey" with heavy fruit lead. Decent purple color, minimal legs. Did not hit me right. Might have just been the bottle. maybe it needed to sit more. To be fair, I did not decant

PnP. Textbook Gigondas in an approachable modern style. Was going to say I don't usually open bottles this young but ~10 years is at least entering middle age (still working off the last 1994/5 Vacqueyras in the cellar). Anyways this has great balance and delicious flavors.

A bit of brown, brick red to indicate the age on this otherwise dark wine. Big, rich, jammy, smooth. Grenache seems to dominate the fruit: Raspberry, blackberry, black cherry. Cinnamon, spicy oak on the nose. Well integrated tannins. Huge wine that is over the top with fruit, but remains lifted and incredibly bright fruit for 18 years! Stunning in that way. Bright red licorice flavor. Would never guess that such a big, extracted wine could be this fruity and retain balance at age 18. Other than the color, I'd guess this was 4 or 5 years old. Extremely well done.

A WTSO special. Worth tracking down... for the price point.

Color. Saturated red/purple

Nose. Classic old world stewed prune, stewed tomatoes, kirsch, clove. Not a bouquet for the fruit forward fans...

Palate. Rich tannic structure. Cranberries, cherries, burnt chocolate. Finish is short.

As others have said, the quality of this wine is excellent. The price was less than $30 but punches way above that price. I'd peg this at $80 plus. The nose is fantastic. The black fruit is singing and the finish is long. I wish I had bought more.

Aromas of ripe pear, lime, grapefruit, elderflower, a little something veggie and herbal, this is quite ripe and fruity for a 2021... full and viscous, deep and cutting acid, layers of fruit, gorgeous inner perfume of citrus and flowers... long and mineral, fruit is pristine and intense through the finish. This is not super primary, but it's also not showing anything tertiary, it will be worth following at least a few more years. Brilliant Sancerre, about as good as an "entry-level" cuvee gets.
