This was delightful. Funky, nice sugar balance, enough acidity to hold it together and it kept changing through the hour or so we drank it.

All those lovely Bandol rose notes (fresh red sun kissed fruits, a little savoury earthy underpin) but it proves a little flat on the palate with funkiness on the finish. Bah

from magnum. Positively clumsy after the P2 unfortunately, out of whack and fairly coarse. By itself I'm sure it would have been adequate at best

Generous, fleshy, fruit very much in the background but such subtle textured, super persistent, balanced and wonderfully integrated. A reappraisal of Champagne point for me.

Six hour decant. Deep dark ruby magenta color. Black cherry, blueberry, sage, granite, dusty marshmallow, and subtle tangerine rind and Chips Ahoy! chocolate chip cookies. Dry, plush palate, with satiny acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

Some ‘18s are finally ready to go, but many well made Napa Cabs are still very fickle and Syrah-like. I hope to wait 6-12 months for my next bottle and only do a one hour decant. I need to play around a bit. I don’t think the long decant helped in this case.

First one for me. Can taste the tradition, can taste the potential greatness that has it in the Class of Top 5, but can't yet taste the fruit, hiding behind the acid. Way too young still. Will try something with a bit more age, assuming I can find something affordable.

Dark tea in colour. Astute, sharp notes on the nose with some tea like characteristics. On the palate, there are minerals, buttery quality with a lush finish.

Black cherry cola, dirt & earthy notes. Second wave of meat, smoked meat and some spice.

Great depth, then a wonderful bright line of acidity. Just glorious with a lengthy roll off

Refreshing, light. With chicken, easy drinking.

Pleasant petit Bordeaux with good ruby color, pleasant aromatics, and nice balance. Very soft tannins characteristic of the 2016 Bordeaux. This is a pleasant, unassuming wine that is perfect for a mid week dinner. Not very complex or long but drinking well at this point in time.

Beautiful.

Red cherry notes, very Brunello nose.

Decanted and drank over three hours, the last sip was the best and it could open up even more.

Paired best with mushroom pasta.

Notes of red fruit and plum, violets, spice and hints of earthiness. Very juicy but not overpowering, smooth tannins. Good nightly drinking wine - enjoyed it over 2-3 days using Coravin!

Dark purple in colour with faint red fruits. Tannic and closed at the current stage. Was told that this wine was made in the modernist style and uses French oak.

Dark brick red in colour with a creamy, vanilla nose backed by blackcurrants. The fresh butter on the palate, coupled with oak, cherries and fresh fruits explains why this is such a highly regarded wine.

Ends off with some metallic notes, spices with clear influences from the use of US oak.

Deep gold in colour. Oily nose with fleeting aroma, revealing its age. Weak mid-palate with high levels of acidity. Wine was made using new oak.

PnP. Black fruit and some flowers on the nose. Light body. Very fine-grained tannins but noticeable nonetheless. Astringent and honestly kind of thin. After overnight in fridge under vacuum seal, tannins had receded and wine was more full bodied. At least no longer could be described as thin. More dark fruited and interesting. It seems this needs more time in cellar.

2019 Fattoria dei Pagliarese Chianti Classico Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese (view label images)
Delivers value for the relatively modest price. The fruit is ripe and there is the structure and markers I look for in Sangiovese. I would not expect greater intensity, concentration, or complexity for the price. Smoother riper tannins than I was expecting. Good QPR.

Amber- orange in colour. On the nose the wine presents a sourish, aged profile with some oily and nutty notes. On the palate the oily notes persisted. The oak overpowers the wine, giving it an off balance feel.

Not to my liking.

1994 Domaine Tempier Bandol Mourvèdre Blend, Mourvèdre (view label images)
Opened with a lot of barnyard and horse and gamey aromas, but after a couple of hours these notes mellowed out and integrated. They gave way to an awesome bouquet of leather, cherry, marzipan, black pepper, forest floor, and pyrazine with the gamey blood notes in the background. Really surprised me on the palate, with coffee, stewed cherry and some other things coming in but tannin/acid/alcohol in a really nice balance. Definitely a Bandol, but if you’re into old Mourvèdre I was very pleased with this one.

Dark garnet color with slight bricking at the edge. This is so good. It is open and ready to drink. Ripe, lush tannins are fully melded producing a spicy edge to the creamy black cherry and licorice core. This just erupts in your mouth. Beautifully balanced with a tart lift that keeps this Gruaud Larose pure through the finish. Decant for 45-60 minutes.

Clear greenish yellow with unripe pineapples on the nose. On the palate the fresh minerals are abundant backed by citrus fruits. Made in the modern style with stainless steel tanks.

I purchased a couple of these in 2012 and stored properly since. This really needs a couple hours in the decanter at least. I brought this to a restaurant and decanted it there and it was somewhat muted for most of the meal. This has dark fruits up front and it has that massive inky grip you find in Napa. However, this had much more balance and was far more polished and civilized along the way. For me, this isn’t remotely close to being in its prime. This should easily drink well for another decade plus. This paired well with a bone in filet mignon. Revisit 2030+

Stood up for a week. Slow ox’d, no decant, for 5 hours. Just spectacularly pure, with perfectly integrated nose and palate showing rose petals, red fruit, tar, leather, mushroom and forest floor.

Continued to open in the glass and evolve, improving along the way without ever getting tired. A truly great wine.

More austere than expected. Quite tannic from lips to finish. Subdued but correct ripe cherry and blackberry on nose and palate. Plenty of oak. Really opens up in the glass with some air. Some metallic mineral flavors with some wet tree bark. Kind of grows on you with a mouth coating almost menthol or evergreen flavor that lingers with the earthy cherry.

After last week's Cabernet....now the Merlot.
On nose: raspberries, toasted french bread and light roast coffee.
On palate: all above flavours well noted, and displayed on a sleek medium body, with muted tannins, vanilla/ oak, and a ghost of cinnamon.....popped& poured, with no decant.....pleasant food wine, with a civilized 13.5% alcohol....went well with pulled pork, roast potatoes and a carrot/ broccoli medley, for dinner.

Nose of dark fruit and bit of earth. Palate keeps the dark fruit, lovely minerality, and nice acid. Came out a little hot but then balanced out after an hour. Try next one in a few years.
