Water clear, squarely in the bright, refreshing, and easily enjoyable style of Sauvignon Blanc. Very cleansing and lively in the mouth, centered on the bright acidity edged with lemon and lime fruit, without any flavors of oak, grapefruit, grass, or gooseberry.

Had no idea that Casey Flat Ranch made a wine from a vineyard 2,000 feet high on a mountain overlooking Copay Valley. A serious wine, with a very rare blend of 39% Syrah, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 11% Mourvedre, which is an intriguing blend of Rhone and Bordeaux grapes. Opaque black with an inch pour, with inviting aromas of blackberry, black currant, black cherry, and blueberry. Has all the stuffing needed to be ageworthy: concentration, delicious fruit, and finely structured by refreshing acidity and grippy tannin. Ends with a mouth coating near everlasting finish. Overall, at the $10 a bottle that we paid, a magnificent high altitude best buy.

A big red wine, made from grapes from high altitude vineyards in Capay Valley, where the main blend is Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The texture is very caressing and lush, chiefly from what California Syrah achieves in contrast to Australian Syrah, that tends to be the muscular and grippy part of the blend. Overall, a big, delicious, fruity, and powerful blend that finishes dry.

OMG. Enjoying a glass of this after a disappointing glass of Ty Caton. This is what CA cab sauv is about . I have one more bottle which will be getting personal with a filet grilled in bacon fat.

Last bottle purchase, good QPR for a fruit forward Cab that is well integrated. Paired well with a garlic/thyme infused ribeye.

Decanted for 90 minutes. Long legs, some minor residue in the glass, dark purple, nose of red and black fruits, some soft oak notes. I wasn't anticipating this to be an excellent bottle but was happily surprised by how good it was. Well-integrated tannins, soft oak. blackberry and plum. Very nicely balanced and drinking well right now. Perfect with an artisan wood fired pizza, grilled onions. potato, chorizo and smoked mozzarella. Wish I had more than one bottle.

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry. It tastes like black currant (cassis) and pear. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Really impressed with how well this has aged. This is the 4th opening of this vintage and it is by far the best. Prior acidity and tannins have really matured and now we have the Northern Cali terroir front and center. Strong black fruit mid pallet and the syrah doesn't let you down with a peppery finish. The cab components don't disappoint with a long and still robustly tannic finish.

This did mellow down and became much more of a reasonable wine pairing after 4 days but man, way too much sweet and way too much fruit... not enough else. Didn't really work well with steak sadly and was mostly better with heavy food. Not great QPR, but it certainly isn't out of gas yet. Maybe just not my style.

Inky. Lots of scrub brush and herbaceous stuff happening here. Great depth. Some eucalyptus, too. Good birthday wine with some slow and low ribs.

Ready to drink now, very fruity up front, Syrah grape really powers through. Not sure how long I’ll hold onto my last bottle!

My last bottle. Every year from my first in 2016, this wine improved in flavor and texture. Now fully outstanding. Thanks, Casey!

WSET Level 3; 11/3/2019-2/3/2020 (San Diego, CA): Bottle was tasted during WSET3 Class. Wine must have been oxidized during barrel aging and has now developed unwanted funky earth, sour fruit, nutty caramel aromas and flavors. Not sure if that was the winemaking intent (with a Sauv Blanc???) or mistakenly not topping of barrels during the maturation process.

Brambly nose, berries, meat, smooth fruit in the mouth. Well rounded and fun syrah blend. Drink now.

As with previous, a very enjoyable wine. For how much I enjoy it, the sub-$10 price point makes this among the best QPRs I've ever had.

This past year of cellaring has been good for Casey Flat! Everything has come together wonderfully to create a rich, rounded, blended red from Central California. Excellent on night one, it became even more multi-layered on night two. So wonderful, in fact, that I opened another bottle on night three, to see if the previous was just a lucky outlier. Much to my delight, more of the mature beauty emerged for nights three and four as well. Given how well its aging, I'm going to let my remaining two bottles slumber for the rest of this year.

Still really enjoy this wine. Still a tad heavy on the alcohol on the nose, but a little time helped that dissipate quickly enough. Rich, velvety wine with nice tannins and a smooth finish.

A year after the last bottle, still hasn't opened up. Longish decant. Brambly nose. Tight tannins, a wee bit of dark fruit, uneven woody finish. Was hoping that this would start to improve with time but may be less integrated now than it was previously. Will wait a while for the next bottle but I don't have high hopes. Better alone than with food.

Very enjoyable. The oak and tannins are a bit too exuberant, but not so disjointed that the wine suffers too much from it.

Enjoyable Napa blend. Mourvedre dominated the nose, but the cabernet and syrah provided most of the flavor. And compared to some (many) Aussie cab-syrah blends I've had, where the flavors don't really seem to work together very well, this was right on target.

Unfortunately, popped and poured out of the refrig: big red currant/tart cherry nose: dark fruit on the palate, alcohol noticeable on the finish. Paired nicely with turkey and sundried tomato wraps an a a tuna fish salad on a Leftovers" supper. Will revisit this wine again and serve it under better conditions.
Red
High alcohol based on both the nose and the palate. Inky purple. Red berry fruit nose or maybe a little prunes? A bit overpowering alcohol on the nose but acid balances it out. Legs seriously lasting over one minute. Almost like a fortified wine. Young? Recommended for QPR with the right meal (mild spiced Lamb indian food in this case).

Pretty one-dimensional right now. You can tell there are some great elements to this wine and it has the potential to develop over the next 2-3 years. Probably not a long-term ager. Has the potential to gain another 1-2 points on the score.
