Smooth and fruity with an immediate spice like cinnamon. Very bright for its age

Usually love Edmeades Zin. This bottle/vintage left a me a little disappointed. Not bad, just not a rounded as previous years. Little flat.
Red
Cherry, strawberry, raspberry, good balance of oak, medium-low tannin. Light. Decent. Just as good the next day.

85 May 2022 👃 very ripe red cherry, floral. 👅 PnP ripe cherry, plum, vanilla, a touch of pepper, maybe some chocolate. A fruit bomb. Not sure why I said light before unless it's gained weight in the last 2 years. Big. High alcohol too. A wine for BBQ ribs with a sticky sweet sauce. Too much for me

Nose very clean but did not give a lot away.
Tasted more like a cab than a zin but a very enjoyable wine.
Leonie really like it and so did I.
We had 4 bottles of the 2015 in early September whilst in Europe. The ‘15 was very pleasant but the ‘18 is better but super different.
More dark fruit than red, a bit dryer and much more savoury.

Trintiy Wines US portfolio tasting: Different, a touch herbal, stalky, nutty, ripe cherries, currants, thick oak frame, sweet notes, the palate shows the same profile, sweet fruit and oak notes again like a warm rum, alcohol heat, jammy notes, full body, long finish

Second of two bought from a bin end shop. The first was way past its best before date and had nothing good to say for itself.
This one had plenty to interest me. It poured clear, a dark purple edged with orange. Nose was a heady melange of black fruit, warm spice (nutmeg? cinnamon?) tar and hot wood. In the mouth this all followed through. It was rich, a bit thick in texture, some drying tannins but no texture to them. The fruit was undoubtedly cooked but not stewed. There’s prune in there but it’s a background rather than core. I’m getting medicine cupboard and a lifting floral note which may be violet but is most appealing. OK that’s long enough. I’m impressed with this wine. Not just because my expectations were so low but also that it shows how Zinfandel can show such complexity and finesse with age.

A dark colored, richer than exected, Red Zin that exuded real oak barrels as soon as we popped the cork. Quite dark blueish purple color. Immediate, maturing blueberry and mulberry fruit on the palate. Quite spicy. More tannic and metallic than expected. The alcohol is by no means overpowering, and well on its way, but not totally yet mature. Will easily last a little longer. The rich oak is muck appreciated. A mineral enhancement to lingering and oaky dark fruit finish.

Chose this wine from the cellar to pair with a savory Ribolita. P&P, it took about 10 minutes to open up. Nice nose- some oak and spice; medium body, some spice and dark fruit on the palate; pleasing tannins on the finish.
Two nights later, the wine had lost its appeal. Switched to a Sauvignon Blanc to finish the leftovers.

Really nice everyday wine. Mendo doesn't get enough love. There are some great values from this region. Enjoy with food, or alone.

Surprised that’s it’s still drinkable. Past it’s prime but a great old bottle to trick someone into thinking is nice. 😂

Red brick color. Rich spice box and leather on the nose. Some jamminess remains but it was very smooth with a nice finish. A great surprise.

This is still drinking well. At the opening, it was big but well rounded. Notes of black fruit and finishes with chocolate on the tongue. After an hour it had lost some of its spicier zin notes but was still smooth.

Soft for a zinfandel. Little to no pepper, still a good showing of the varietal. I would buy again.

Strong in alcohol at 15% and high on tannins. Fruit overpowered and overwhelmed (or possibly the fruit had just faded with time - 8 years old). Much better zinfandels around for the same price eg Clone

Off-putting nose (at least for me) - some tannin there, but I found it to be overdone and quite sweet. It's drinkable, but not something I would choose to buy again.

Best choice for the price on wine list of local high traffic mall spot where met friends for an afternoon drink on outdoor patio. Taken home where better with food, in this case marinated flank steak.

The wine was clear with a strong intensity. The core was medium purple with pale purple at the rim. The wine was opaque and the viscosity was high.
The wine was healthy and the intensity was medium. The aromas were of strawberry jam, tobacco, black tea and fig.
The wine was dry with low acid and medium tannins. The flavours were of plum and tobacco with an oaky after taste The body was medium high the alcohol was high and length was medium.
This wine was very good with respect to price and should be consumed right now or within a year. There was a nice gentle complexity in the flavours although the flavours did not give justice to the nose.
This wine would pair well with a smoked BBQ steak on the grill.

Taste BBQ Wines (San Diego Wine Co.): Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage, including acclaim.

N: Jammy, but with restraint?

P: Med body; NICE frt met by an astringent pucker which only partially irons itself out by the LONG, slightly spicy, very slightly dustily tannic finish. Cellar into '19, then drink for the ff'ing 2-3 yrs, I'd guess. VERY nice QPR @ the tasted $12.99! [As of mid Apr '20, wine-searcher still shows 3 sources from $15-$24]

modest bouquet of raisins and dark fruit; high alcohol is apparent on the nose, but does not dominate on the palate; medium, full bodied with dark fruit dominating; shows a somewhat layered structure on the palate with a hint of oak and sweetness; modestly tannic structure shows after 2 hours of air; very smooth long finish; wine shows some complexity thus is a decent QPR at $19. Very interesting offering ! [ day two more of the same save tannins seem more pronounced - upping score to 90 ]

Taste Our Wine of the Month & Other Newbies! (San Diego Wine Co.): “78% Zin, 19% P.S., & 3% Syrah harvested @ 25.3° Brix; 14 mos in 55% FR & 45% AM oak, 20% new; 15.0%, 0.60 g/100ml T.A., & 3.88 pH; 7,500 cases produced.”

N: Closed; Minerals atop berries with hints of vanilla?

P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by a bit of astringent pucker which evolves into a LONG, balanced finish with a tangy/swtness & OCCASIONAL *hints* of very, VERY slight bitterness to the fairly unoffensive, yet firming, dusty tannins. For now with food, MAY improve for 6-12 mos, then drink into '23. My VG+, though I'd certainly listen to pleas for EXC- based upon its approachability/QPR. 89 pts WE (Gordon, 7/1/19) @ $20. [This vendor's $12.99 is $1 < wine-searcher's lowest.]

No doubt about the full-on dense ripe fruit here along with bags of spice. The whole lot has a nice touch of oak and a smoky quality. For my taste, the 15.5% alcohol is just a bit too hot but it does make for a powerful intense wine.

I don't buy much wine at Costco, but they can deliver some nice value. This is an example. Solid QPR at $13, this is on the more elegant side of Zin with signature bramble and small red fruits with some spice. Zin often comes with a pretty high abv and I thought this one drank sub-14%, so was surprised to see label abv of 15.0%. Food friendly, easy, and balanced. The only gripe is that it stalls and drops a bit in the middle - wish is showed a bit more fruit there.

Cherry cola, blackberry compote, licorice, funky spice - a cross between Franschoek Syrah and Sonoma Pinot Noir - all covered in layers of alcohol.
Not my cup of tea but may appeal to some.

Up until now, I have not had an Edmeades Zin that compares to the first bottle I had over 20 years ago. This bottle did. Obviously showing some age, this bottle showed flowery raspberry with a touch of smokiness, light briariness that just tickled your tongue and non of it's 15.5% alcohol.
This is why I love well-aged Zins!

A well crafted Zinfandel with integrated silky tannins, a good balance of fruit and acidity. A little simple, but not over the top or rough. Very good QPR. It's a wine to pop for a BBQ picnic.

Day 2. Alcohol taste dissipated leaving a decent zin as a good Tuesday night quaffer. Up my score from an 86 to an 87.
