Took a while ( 3 hours) to really open up. Very enjoyable and layered wine.

Not a great bottle. Not sure if it was defective, or just bad.

Opened 2 bottles for a party. Again I give it very high marks. I call it a big Pinot as it is a Cab lover's pinot

Half way between my two previous scores. Like it being less fruit forward, but having some body. Agree with a previous note that it is not likely to get any better.

Still amazing. Mellow but full of flavor. The acid is very light. Oak still shows. A very light lemon balancing sweet floral honey. Thanks to a gone label. I have one of these left. Might drink next year

This wine offers pinot layered characteristics in spades. Medium ruby garnet color starting to show rim variation. Drink now. Opens with an intense blackberry nose, followed by baking spices, then cola beautifully balancing the fruit with a softly textured medium plus acidity and low tannins. Moderate length finish Even with its cool climate, Toulouse Vineyard/Anderson valley shows fewer forest floor and mushroomy notes than its Oregon neighbors. Too bad that Mac Phail is gone as theirs were some of California's most elegant wines.

My last bottle of sundawg ridge that James Macphail made (as off 2015 the Hess winemaker took over). It went beautifully with brined and grilled pork loin with peach/burata/mint salad! Love this. Feels like saying goodbye to an era and very much enjoyed it.

This is the best make-out kiss. Smells so good going in, as my nose dives into the bulbous Reidel glass. And once the taste receptors take over, it's clear, the menthol inflicted, ripe, and groovy aromas are a reminder of why some Sonoma Coast wines are great, even if vilified once in awhile.
Super great, super satisfying, and a wine I would PnP all night long, if available.

Tasted MacPhail 2018 vs WH Smith Maritime 2016. Smith was good; MacPhail was better - brighter fruit good acid balance. Probably close to peak now.

Literally they don’t make this anymore. But, hunt down grapes from this vineyard. 14.7% but the viscosity feels like it should be higher. Seaweed on the nose. Oak and a little muted pepper in the mouth. A drop of honey at the end.
Really great.

This one was a good bottle. Tabaco and cedar on the nose, cherries in the mouth. Brought it to an Italian restaurant and all enjoyed it - thank goodness!!

Oak faded to the back. Still a little acid. Structure game is still strong. Very nice. That said, you’re rolling the dice if you wait much longer.

So sad this wine is gone forever. The 2013 has aged magnificently. Firm base of silly tannins. The fruit is moved from hard cherry candy to black fruits and molasses. Nose is still cherry and rose but develops on the palate into a mature, great expression of California Pinot. A quietly amazing wine.

I think this one is peaking with age. 9-years in and the aromas pack a punch, while the body still shows a freshness that has already faded in many California Pinots of a similar age. Sadly, this label is no more; some serious talent behind this one.

I found this one in the cellar and remembered it was tannic years back. Wow what a surprise! complex layer fruit. Voluptuous California style. One of those moments to cellar was fulfilling.

I really enjoyed this bottle of Chardonnay and I rarely drink Chardonnay !!
Perfect cork after almost 5 years in the bottle, easily removed. Golden straw color with excellent clarity. Consumed over 3 days, vac-u-vin and stored in the refrigerator. More aromatic the first day of lychee nut, apple, and vanilla. Flavors of stone fruit, apple, pear, Meyer lemon, and custard with a long tart finish. Made in a California style by James MacPhail and aged 11 months in medium toast French oak (1/3 new). The Pratt Vineyard on Vine Hill Road in Russian River Valley is planted in Goodrich soils to three clones: Mt Eden, Robert Young, and Dion 96. An age worthy wine with many years remaining. I still have one bottle remaining in the cellar to validate this tasting note. Well done and near peak !!

I have to agree with the recent tasting notes. Though this wine has not completely gone south, it's definitely past its prime. The dark, rich burgundy color in the glass and rich fruity aromas on the nose would lead you to think it might be a younger wine. But the somewhat sour and plum-like character on the palate shows this wine has lived a good, long life and it's time to move on any that remain in your cellar. Don't get me wrong, it's still enjoyable. But don't think you can get away with enjoying this over 2-3 nights. Drink now.

This bottling is definitely showing its age. Still enjoyable, but not nearly as exciting as previous experiences. And showing signs of oxidation quickly after popping the cork; not one to drag across multiple days. Drink up if you have any remaining in the cellar!

Really nice... Well balanced. Dark fruits. Only downside was the cork broke while opening the bottle - I'll chalk that up to user error.

This MacPhail continues to drink well, now 10-years past vintage. Funky (in a really good way) aromas on the nose with darker fruit on the palate and a medium finish. Plenty of acidity and structure still coming through. Delicious.
